Phone mount?

Wasn't sure if it was best to put this here or in the interior section, but I'm thinking here.


Is anyone using a phone mount in their Sonic and if so, where and how?
I bought an "Encased" mount for my HTC One M9 and need to come up with a permanent spot for it.

I tried using the disc they give with it that sticks to a surface and then you suction cup to that, but the sticky pad on it won't stay stuck. I used the little tray on the center top of the dash. So, either I'm going to try something else, or I'm likely going to epoxy it to that area once I'm 100% sure it's where I want it.

I use this for Waze.

I have a Steelie car mount in my wagon. I'm thinking about getting another Steelie dash ball to put in the Sonic. I think it would mount perfectly under the touch screen & wouldn't be in the way.

I had a cheap vent mount that was good but the plastic piece that clips to the vent cracked. Not sure what to get now..I'm thinking maybe a window mount. But folks have used the tray on top of the dash...let me look up those threads..I've love to use the tray..buy it's been a bit useless with eveything sliding out if it.

I got a cheap vent mount, and cut a paint stirrer shorter, stuck the stirrer in the card slot and the vent mount on the stirrer. This gives me a phone which sits out far enough away from the air controls that I can get to them, and that doesn't sit on a vent... because I cannot comprehend how it's a good idea to block either hot or cold air, nor to have the phone sitting in a hot air stream (the cold wouldn't be so bad I guess). Vent mount makes no sense to me except under conditions where I am not using the vents.

I put way too much effort into my phone mount and its still not perfect.

First, in the right dash cubby hole I put in a Three-Way Car Cigarette Lighter Socket Splitter w/ USB Port. It just sits there, nothing special to hold it in place. It hasn't fallen out and works well for me so I won't fix what ain't broke. I am able to keep some papers beside the Socket Splitter such as park passes, receipts and coupons.

I cut three pieces of PVC to length. I believe the bottom two piece are 1.5 inch PVC tube, the top piece a 1 inch PVC tube. I used scrap pieces from a basket in my garage where I toss remnants from previous projects. I placed them in the cubby hole, marked for length, then removed to cut. A bit of trial and error. I then sanded the sides lengthwise to give a slight surface and used PVC glue to glue them together. I spray painted them black and wrapped duct tape around them for additional structural support.

I used a T fitting on the top piece a I was debating mounting the phone higher but decided against that. I inserted some packing foam into the top piece.

I bought a phone mount with convenient cradle and flexible arm and forced it through the foam in the top PVC. I attached a small fabric faced foam cushion to the cradle to prevent rattling but the fabric is coming off as you can see.

The phone mounts so that I can use a DashCam app and record my driving as well as other things on the road. It also allows me to keep my phone charging as the DashCam app would quickly deplete the battery. My phone stays 100% charged. The bottom two PVC tubes are convenient for keeping small items. I usually have a small flashlight in one.

That's a lot of electronic devices to monitor! Looks good though.

It's actually very unobtrusive, surprisingly.

Running the phone in driving mode allows for voice activation so I can call/text without distraction.

The tablet is more for show, I'll have it in the car when I run some track days this spring for telemetry but it won't be mounted there (suction cup mount, easy to remove)

I don't recall the brand but the tablet mount I bought from Target was $20. Has a suction mount as well as the stick on pad. I have mine stuck to the glossy portion in front of the useless "safety alerts" but it can articulate to stick on the windshield (or stick the pad to the dash)

No but it looks neat for temporarily mounting my phone.. the price seems a bit much though it is a exact fit. The a nice window mount for when I use the phone may be cheaper.

I tried the iOttie Easy One Touch 3 Car Mount Holder for iPhone 6s Plus Samsung and it didn't work. At least where I wished to put it.

I wished to put it right above the 2 center air vents. The dash is too curved at that point for this mount to work.

I then tried the forward center dash cubbie hole. This mount is *streamlined* meaning you must have good access to the suction cup lever to engage. Once I put mount in cubbie hole, I couldn't reach the lever.

FYI I do like the one touch release and clamping force. This mount ended up going into the other vehicle.

I've been looking for a good phone mount. These cars just aren't setup for a good mount. May have to go with an old window mount

I deconstructed a suction mount for mine. Removed the suction cup, cut the round part down to fit the under side of the radio cover thing, and adhered with 3m VHB body panel tape.

It's been on for at least 6 months. It's adjustable (even landscape/portrait), wiggle free, right within arms reach, visible without being in my face, and doesn't glow in my peripherals at night like a dash or window mount.

These are extra expensive, since they are leather covered. One style goes above the center vents, and the other goes low, maybe into the passenger's knee.
