Popping noise near the left front suspension.

I been hearing this popping sound for about a couple months now and even after an wheel alinement im still hearing. Im at the dealership now getting it checked out. My car is still under warranty but my advisor seems like a dick....im trying to get it fixed under warranty..i dont have the money to fix it....he said that my aftermarket wheels could be a factor and im told him that can not make a popping noise by going 1 size up from the 17's..any help...

Popping on turning? Or going over bumps? Bumps could be sway bar end links. Turning could be cv joint ( that'd be the first bad one I've seen here though)

Popping when turning, sorry wasn't clear enough. But thats whats going on. i kno its covered under the warranty idk y my advisor is acting like my wheels are the factor. Cuz they are not. I ruled that out.

My car started doing that in the last month or so. I thought maybe when they replaced my transmission they didn't tighten everything up right, so I took it back and they said they fixed it, but it's still doing it. It will be going back next week after the holiday madness is over.

It's the well known problem with the 6 speed. Something with a bearing or bearings in there that can't be replaced individually, the entire unit has to be replaced. From what I've gathered everyone with a 6 speed will have to have their transmission replaced at some point.

Wow. Well some how a bolt and some screws were missing front my front driver side shock/strut. Im getting a rental on monday

So damn true...I'm hoping this one will be the last replacement for me, and I have noise issues as well I'm going in tomorrow bright and early to have it all checked out.

Noise while turning is indicative of the top hat bearings being bad (can't recall what the top bearings that isolate the strut from the body are called), OR something not being tight on the adjoining assembly..

Glad to hear they figured it out.


As for the M32 bearing failure, GM revised the case and something else to correct the 5/6 rear shaft bearing from failing. A trans expert on the Vauxhall found that out, and also determined the root cause was oil starvation of that bearing, obviously GM engineers figured that out aswell (a bit behind the Vaux guys thou). The preventive fix was a good fluid and overfilling by 1/2 qt.

The 1-2 syncro grind on the other hand is a whole nother can of worms.

I also have a popping noise from my left front tire. It only happens while making turns, especially when reversing. Also, it's not very repeatable. It happens occasionally. It sounds like a piece of metal is slapping up against the car making a loud "thunk" noise.

I've brought mine in, but because they couldn't repeat the noise AND they didn't see anything wrong I am stuck with it.

I wouldn't accept them not being able to hear it. I would take it to another dealership. And if you can, use your phone or another recording device to record the noise, so they at least hear it and know you are in fact hearing something.

Yes, it has made the noise again. I can't record it though because it is very sporadic. I guess I could keep turning while recording to see if I can get it on video

I had the same type noise but on passenger side, ended up being the boot for the strut that was making the noise.

I could have someone ride with me. The problem is, is that the dealer won't have a ride along unless the problem is happening constantly. Which it isn't. I can have one of my buddies ride along and have them film until I get the noise

Sorry for resurrecting a dead thread, but did you ever find out what the culprit was. My 2013 RS is doing the same thing. Dealer has replaced both axles, both lower control arms and then blamed the struts so replaced both struts at the shop I work at replaced both struts and mounts with GM parts and still pops with the wheel turned in reverse

Same problem here on my 2014 LT Hatch. It is very sporadic so I haven't taken it to the dealership yet as I know they won't be able to replicate it. I took it to the dealership not long after I bought it for the same issue but they said nothing was wrong. It has continued to be a sporadic occurrence since I bought the car. Has anybody had this problem and the dealer fix it?
