Questions regarding swapping out headunit

Hello guys! This is my first real post here. This is also my first modification to my car I've had for getting close to 5 years now. I'm wanting to update my 2014 Chevy Sonic LS from the stock Mylink to a Sony XAV-AX5000 to get some sweet sweet CarPlay in it. So far I think I've got everything covered. Got all the wiring harness, adapters and everything I need from Crutchfield.

One thing I cannot find anything about though is retaining the factory microphone. Is that possible for me to do? If I cannot do that, what is a good way I can attack my new microphone to somewhere on my dash near my steering wheel? Do I just take the panels off the dash and just route it through that way? I'm pretty new to this.

I will be adding a pioneer head unit this weekend and plan on putting the microphone on the roof where the dome lights are. I've done this in other cars and it works well.

You can fish the wire through the back of the dash when you're installing the new head unit. Then route it through the a pillar and under the headliner.

I attached mine to the windshield, right next to the rear view mirror.

I may move it to the plastic base of the mirror though because it picks up a lot of rain and wiper noise on calls.

Let me know if you get this done. I got all the wiring done for my pioneer 7" double din nex headunit and it is amazing but I cant get the damn thing to fit in the dash. It sticks out about an inch because of all the wires and harnesses. So I'm going to have to chop up the inside of the dash so it will sit flush.
