Replace old mylink with newer mylink

I’m certain this question has been asked, as a matter of fact I know it has but no one responded to it with an answer. I searched but no matter what combo of words I used on google search and the forum search I couldn’t find an answer I was looking for. So... I have a 2015 RS sedan with the older mylink system (without the knob) and really want Apple CarPlay, has anyone ever swapped a newer mylink system such as that out of a 17 sonic (with the knob)? I see services online to update the old mylink to a newer version but they are like $1000. If I spent that I would just buy a new head unit, but it doesn’t matter that much to me. I have no idea about whether the bolt holes will line up or if the wiring harness is the same. So anyone know for sure???

Your not the only one who is interested in this, I wonder if the newer HU and USB plug would be a plug n play

No. They are not drop in replacements. There are seperate modules that need replaced behind the glovebox in addition to the main unit. They all need dealer programmed on top of that. Plus I think the harnesses change between years and speaker configurations. Much better off with replacing the head unit entirely.
