So I had my heater core go bad and dump coolant into the passenger compartment this spring. I bypassed the heater core until now, my wife is making me fix it now that its winter.
Originally i was going to just post some pics of the progress because i only have a couple hours a day and commit to this project... However part of this thread is going to turn into how disappointed I am with Chevy. Mostly that their heater cores have been going bad for years in the Cruze and the Sonic and they have done nothing to fix it....
anyways.... Anyone that knows, this is a huge pain as you have to remove the entire dash and basically everything inside the car to remove the heater core.
here is my progress after about an hr today.
and here is crapy quality control... whoever installs dashes at chevy needs to be fired...
First the left side outer trim cover (the part of the dash that would face the door) you can see the bottom tab is smashed so it was forced into place and this clip wasn't in.
So then I pull off the Right side and that side was fine... until I noticed the screw sticking half way out that was never tightened at the factory!
For anyone wondering I purchased my car brand new with 4 miles on it, the plastic was still on the outside of the car when I purchased it. The only issue Iv'e had was a shifter cable coming undone, but they wouldn't have needed to pull apart the dash to fix that, just the front console cover over the shifter.
