What's the highest anyone's gotten theses things to go to?

And what are the limitations for this thing stock

When will I run into valve float
When will I run into mechanical limits
Etc

7500, but its pointless with a stock engine. Even 7000 is above where its making decent power.

I limit first to 6000, second and third to 7000, and forth and fifth are i think set to 4500. Forth and fifth was not intentional, but I never changed it since Im never above 4500 in those gears anyways. Second and third was done for autocross use when that extra 500 rpm would have been really helpful, and first revs out too quick so I dropped it for engine well being concerns.

All that being said, my car rarely sees more than 3500 RPM.

I am not spending the money on a set of custom cams that may or may not actually be usable with this engine.

Not sure why so many people obsess with spinning to high rpm to chase high hp numbers. If you can make the power at a rpm within what the engine was designed to handle, why not stick with it? I have done the whole big cam 4 banger thing before and the trade off is not worth it.

I would be more interested in a cam that allowed for making more power in the 4500-6500 range. Changing the cams will just open up the next problem of the valve springs. Might have to call Briggs and Stratton for some stiffer springs than the 1.8 uses.

I'd just spring for some heavy ones if I'm changing them anyway

Easier said than done. Having had a 1.8 head apart it will require custom springs, machining, both, or finding some place in Europe that has a spring for a 1.8 or 1.6 that will work with our head. This engine was not designed with performance in mind.

I dont find it fun anymore. Once my 1.8 calls it quits I will probably be done messing with it. Call a scrapper to come pick it up and be done with it.

That's the red line on the 1.4 too. If you hit it though it cuts fuel I think. Are you guys tuning around this or something?

I was more of curious about it for when my warranty goes out and I play around with my 1.8

But like he said
It's a eco box and they purposely put the exact opposite kind of cam you want
Better low end grunt and economy
But it falls on its face higher you go

Well you could always turn it into a troll car and **** with people with V8's not sure how well that would work with the stock engine though. I'd say slap a turbo on it and go nuts!

The stock internals of a 1.8 were built purely around it being an economy car. Before going too nuts you would want to replace the rods and pistons with much stronger pieces. The head may or may not flow well enough and I am unaware of anyone ever having one flow tested. I am sure the crank is fine for what anyone on this forum is likely to be doing for power. Valve springs are quite weak and the valves are tiny. There isnt really room to go bigger on the valves either so more air through them will require more lift or more duration. I do not know how much room there is for more of either though.
