When i first start my car and it goes into low idle i have to back out of my parking spot. When i try to go into reverse it grinds. It doesn't to it all the time but when it does its very noticeable. Any reason why?

1.8 5Spd?? If so I have a bulletin I can post for you and it pissed me off when I asked them the same question and got it.
The answer they gave me is that the 5Spd doesn's have synchronized reverse gear so it grinds and that's what it's supposed to do. Their solution is to come to a stop place in neutral remove foot from clutch and wait 5-10 seconds, then depress clutch, wait another 5-10 seconds and shift into reverse.
First off I am not waiting half a minute sitting there in the parking lot or middle of the road to back in for that long. Second I hate getting that look from people when I rush a reverse and grind like I don't know how to drive my car. Third I was told that only 2011 and 2012 have this issue meaning that they fixed it for the 2013 and up but insist there is no problem with my car?!?!?!?!?!

I have the same issue. Irks me to no end! I'll try out the first then reverse technique.

Well, my thoughts on it are this:
The reason reverse is grinding is because the shaft is spinning.
Reason putting it In a fwd gear then Reverse works is because the fwd gear stops the shaft.
Why is the shaft spinning?
The most Obvious one is the clutch is dragging a hair.

Non-synchronized reverse gears have ALWAYS done this when someone doesn't know how to operate the transmission. You can be mad all you want but you are the one at fault.
I'm sorry and yes its harsh but it is the truth. First gear also was very common to not have any synchronizers.
If you want to go right into reverse immediately after stepping on the clutch then go from neutral into another gear and THEN into reverse. This causes a synchronized gear to stop the input shaft from spinning and it won't grind going into reverse. However, you very likely will have to let the clutch up a hair to get the gears to line up so it will slide into reverse.
This is 100% normal. No one is hiding anything or making anything up. Nothing was fixed because there is nothing to fix. The 6 speed doesn't do it because it has a synchronized reverse. In reality, a synchronized reverse is a luxury item and really not necessary at all.
