Speed has nothing to do with having a bar required or not. Whatever body is running the event will dictate that. There's very few builds out there because it's unnecessary. The Sonic doesn't go fast enough to require one in any motorsport except rally.
Ray Piloto campaigned a Sonic a few years ago in SPEC B, but everything done was custom.
BNR bought the Super Street Sonic build, it has a custom cage as well...adding unnecessary weight....
Unless you're doing stage rally you probably don't need one

There's no off the shelf bar available, so custom fab is your only option.Pretty much why I'm asking, I'm going to be doing autox but they require at least a single roll bar behind the front seats (I'm ok with this since I won't totally lose my rear seats) with a harness bar ON the roll bar, according to their tech guys a floor mounted harness bar is a big no no idk why but dems duh rulz.

Anyone (non factory race team or stunt cage spec) successfully caged a sonic hatch? I'm trying to decide if I can justify running an American compact in ChampCar.
Here's a nice piece of work. . . .Watch the Youtube below - - -

You won't want to run the turbo in champ car unless you are okay with going up to the next class. The Sonic 1.8 NA model is great for champ car because it's at the highest displacement for the lowest level class. In SCCA you can run the turbo car in t4 with a limited slip differential. I think getting down to ride height will be a bit of a challenge though.Anyone (non factory race team or stunt cage spec) successfully caged a sonic hatch?
