I have a 2015 Chevy Sonic Lt 1.8. The water pump went out and I had my Uncle replace it. After he replaced it I drove it twice and the started it the third time and it made a deep sound and the serpentine belt frayed on the side and came off. I got a new serpentine belt put on and started it and it still makes the low kind of rumble sound it did right before the belt broke so I turned it off. Does anyone know what my uncle could have not done right that would have cause this problem? He had to have not put something on correct when he changed the water pump right?
hmm when you replaced the serpentine belt, did you replace the tensioner along with it? My guess it may be the tensioner pulley that may be gone as well. The bearings on these things tend to have the same lifetime as the belt, should be changed together as a while you’re in their part IMHO. Also was the water pump aftermarket or GM/Delco/gates? Aftermarket parts these days have a tendency to be made of low quality components, and have a complete lack of quality control, in order to keep the price low, which means, by the time you have come across a good working one, you would have already paid the price of an original a few times over. Out of experience, I would never buy aftermarket parts anymore. The initial price in my experience is cheap, but at the end of the day way more expensive in the long run. Only aftermarket parts I would be inclined to get are performance parts from reputable performance outfits.
also no need to be quick to judge until you figure out what was actually wrong. Could potentially be blaming your uncle for something he never touched in the first place. I’d say woah, hold your horses there until it all gets figured out Innocent until proven guilty
