I have 2. 2015 1.8 and a 2016 1.4 turbo. Both automatics with transmissions acting up. Erratic shifts, hard shifts, sometimes it feels as if it cannot decide what gear it wants. First that went was the 2015 1.8, now the 2016 1.4 turbo is acting up. I understand they have TOTALLY DIFFERENT transmissions. Both are creating issues on an otherwise good little 30-40mpg car.
Anyone else have automatic trans problems?
I took this to our local small mechanic transmission shop for a Dx. He called and told me I needed a new transmission - $3000.
I said put it back together and I'll pick it up. He said "It's already to pick up". I went over there. He never removed the transmission to inspect it.
I think what he did was put a scanner in and try to read fault codes. Obviously there must have been none for the control module, so he must have figured it "had" to be mechanical related - without taking anything apart.
He finally fessed up. He told me he wanted to take my used transmission case, tear it down, and rebuild it with new parts - and charge me the price for essentially what is a brand new transmission from the dealer, except mine would be my used case with new parts. Probably using the same control module unit as well.
I could buy a used auto trans on eBay and have it shipped here and install it myself. But control modules must match almost perfectly to avoid re-programming.
The other problem is the replacement trans is also USED, and possibly has the same internal issues. When you buy online, you buy blind. Some have warranty on used parts - but the cost to ship back is more than a $1.50 should problems arise.
Its not like the old days when the only problem was if the parts fit and bolted up. Now we have rolling computers on wheels which must match up and talk to each other for the car to work.
