Sonic Down!!!!!! NNNNNOOOOOO

Here is the low down, well I've had my car for almost one month on saturday the 21st of Feb. Well that Friday after work I jumped in my car from working a long day. And than I noticed the engine light was on, so straight over to the dealership I go, lol not even 700 miles on the sonic!!

So I get to the service department and talked with my advisor and he said that the sensor that turns on/off the cooling fans wasn't working, also the other sensor that basically reads the engine temp also wasn't working! More!!!!!

So the next day he ordered the parts and since The Monday was Martin L. King day the parts came in yesterday. I was super excited. Like a :banana: haha. Well later in the afternoon my service guy calls me and says. They put the new sensors in and guess what!! ( Same thing didn't work)!! Tried using them inthe Sonics on the lot worked fine... So I was needless to say so then finally they had to check the next thing which was the BCM (body control modular)!!! And now it's almost Thursday and I'm really hoping this fixes it.. But I call BS!!! LoL anyone else have these problems?

And tomorrow I find out if it's fixed! And I'll keep everyone in the loop. So now one major thing down,

For future reference, try writing down the exact code it gave. This sounds like an isolated incident. Typically, these type parts (sensors and electronics) fail early or don't fail for a decade. Be patient but firm and ask for a detailed explanation of what was replaced and why.

Thats a $hitty situation youre in, but on the other hand, it could have happened one mile after your warranty was up. Not that any of us have to worry about expired warranties for a few years.

The Sonic has a unique thermostat. It's electronic whereas a typical thermostat uses a temperature sensitive spring. I would assume the thermostat sensor not only controls coolant flow but the radiator fan. If they replace the thermostat itself, see if you can snap a picture. I would like to see how it works.

Well I'm going to be hopefully picking up my sonic tomorrow. I'm hoping everything is gonna be fine. They told me today they received the new BCM and had to program it. And gotta test drive it to make sure everything is working fine. So fingers crossed!!!! I'll keep everyone in the loop..

Whoa, this is pretty scary. I've brought my Sonic over 3,000 miles in less than a month (vacation), so I'm hoping you can too after the fixes. Best of luck to you man.

So I finally got the Sonic back yesterday after work, after not having her for the whole week, which sucked BTW,, haha i got all the paper work that was done to my vehicle! so where to start

ok first off the Engine Code for the Coolant temp sensor is(P00B4) The dealership replaced it the first time and it still gave the same code so finally after them running more test they came to conclusion it was the (PCM) Power Control Mod,, so they had to order a new one from GM in MI. They one nighted it to the dealership the thursday morning. it took the dealer 1 full day to finally get the PCM -new one- re- learned it. I dont have any code number for the Faulty PCM it doesnt show it on my paper work.. iM just glad it wasnt nothing to major haha. im 100% happy to have my baby back tho!!! ;-)

Well i hope noone else has this problem. oh yeah and they already fixed the emissions Recall they had with the gas line clip. so that was all fixed during the visit to the dealership.

The best thing is that the dealership had to pay for my rental which the grand total for that was for a 7 day rental subtotal($266.00),, priceless-- oh and for people that dont know now when you rent a car from enterpirse the deposit is $25.00 for dealerships-$50.00 for insurance- $100.00 for regular rentals.. i figured id give the people of the forum world the low down. haha i was pretty pissed to find out i had to pay the 25.00 buck deposit enough venting haha.. if anyone has questions ask away.

If you had to pay for that PCM, you would have considered it very major. Sounds like a positive result other than the one week wait for the part. I suppose this is to be expected with a fresh new car and I think the dealer did a good job by replacing the sensor and then replacing the PCM. Some dealers might have tried to replace the sensor again which would not have cured the problem.

Everything went great just was disappointed hopefully nothing else will happened again along those lines!;-)
