Sounds like ping pong ball dropping in a cup...

I have a 2015 Sonic LTZ with 6800 miles. Everytime I come to a stop (not speed dependent), I hear a noise I describe as a ping pong ball dropping into a plastic cup. It seems to be coming from the passenger side area (likely in the front area or near the side door.

Do you have any idea what is making this noise?

Assuming you've cleared everything out of your car, could something be rattling around inside the door?

Yes. I cleared everything out of the floor and glovebox and looked under the seats. I have found nothing that could be making noises.

I suppose something could be in the door, but I will have to wait for warmer weather to pull the door panel off.

Any other ideas?

It's a chronic issue in diesel Sonics. Service changes the turbo solenoid valve for it and there is a recall for that in Europe. I don't know is it also valid solution for turbo gasoline.

The sound is from interior or under dash. Definitely an interior noise.

If I still had this sound, I could make a video for you so we could take a decision it's the same sound or not. Turkish Sonic owners call that noise: "gup-gup". Only hearable in stop and go situation and only hearable from inside. Mine was like it's coming from interior too. I looked 1.4 turbo engine images, solenoid valve of that engine is even closer to the windshield than my engine. It is at the passenger-side like mine too.

Murat, I guess this could be the same. After checking around the interior and finding nothing, i am left with the possibility that something is rolling around inside the door or this solenoid issue.

Can you share an image that would show me where this solenoid is mounted?

I might be wrong, there might be an other valve.

In recall in Europe, they add this part to the valve, they call it "vacuum tube":

Murat, that middle picture is spot on. I am not sure how to figure out if the solenoid is the source of the sound I am hearing.

The car has to go in for an oil change soon and I will ask dealer aboit the sound too.

The best thing you can do for the dealer is be able to replicate and convey the issue. Speed, gear, angle, steering, braking, specifically when does it happen? The more repeatable the more likely it gets fixed

You get any resolution on this. Oddly enough I think I'm hearing it now to... About 4 clicks per second similar to an injector click, only on deceleration and stops once idle is achieved
