strange engine ticking noise

I think I've been hearing this for the last couple of days, its not loud because I can only hear it when I'm next to something that allows the sound to reverberate back to me and with the windows down.

It's a very fast ticking noise, the car has 1,100 miles on it, I have played with it once to see what it would do (spin wheels under hard acceleration, skid under hard brake application, neither happened probably because I didn't turn off the traction control) on a freshly rained on parking lot.

Should I being making an appointment at the dealership, it is defintely still under warranty.

Check the other post here to see if it's the same noise probably just the injectors. They are loud.

I was gonna say the injectors in any ecotec motor are very loud and if you go to bigger injectors the ticking gets louder cause of the higher duty cycle from the increased fuel pressure.

2.2L Ecotec on my current DD 2008 Chevy HHR. Makes this sound while idling. My understanding is that it's the pressurized fuel delivery system?

So ours started doing this a couple of weeks ago, bout 64000 mi on a 2012.
It has been quiet up till now. We've even had a check engine light come on twice this month. Both times the acceleration seems sluggish. It's been to the dealer twice, both with no results. After picking it back up the first time, the light came back on 10 mins away, we brought it right back in, with the light on and it making the noise. A tech was brought out to "live diagnose" the problem, and we were given the loaner and sent on our way. This was over Chrstmas,
The code I'm told is an NoX code, due to the failure but its passive. Even with the car actively failed, they could not pinpoint the issue. They changed the oil and gave it back again. When I asked our service rep what the plan is when it fails again the answer shockingly was, well "hopefully you can get it here while the light is on....." My jaw dropped as I said "well we did, we brought it right back, you had a guy under the hood as it was on" His memory had failed. My confidence has failed.

I'm not buying "oh yeah, the injectors are loud" this just started.
Unfortunately my wifes schedule doesn't allow her to just drop everything and run the car in. Need some real answers from others who've had this fixed.

Prior to this iv'e had the coolant leak, "dye added" no final repair.

Oil leaks: the main seal has been replaced twice, then they found the "real" leak, a cracked drive shaft housing that had to have happened during the first winter when the traction control kicked in and there was a loud "bang".

After the housing repair, there seemed to be a light engine vibration that wasn't there before, but cant get any agreement on that either. I hope I'm not seeing the results of a poor repair.

First time in my life iv'e felt good about buying an extended warranty, but what good is it if it cant be diagnosed.

Ticking this morning and now the wife is leery about wasting more time taking it back.

Tellin' ya, it's just the way it is brother. Part of it has to do with the lack of noise insulation on this car as well, it causes you to hear more perfectly normal things than you would with a pricier model vehicle.

This ticking is new, and the car runs sluggish when it's happening, It's been coming and going through the month of December..

Damn, hopefully I'm not getting blown off at the dealer cause of the acceptance of ticking injectors. I'm an hvac tech, have been for 20yrs, I notice abnormal operational sounds and this is not the way this engine has sounded. If loud ticking is normal, I guess i should call this "EXCEPTIONALLY LOUD TICKING".

As a tech myself, I gave the dealer a "pass" on the first no diagnosis, but the second time, when we bring it to them, code active and noisy......then told "can't find anything, bring it back again, this time with the light on, when we did, causes me to question it all

I have returned to report that our engine was found to have a collapsed Lash Adjuster, it has been replaced and the excesive ticking is gone and running fine now.

The third time in we allowed the mechanic to take it home for the weekend, and it happened to him twice on different days.

Even my friend, the Certified GM mechanic, admitted that was a hard diagnosis, so my faith had been restored. The wife's is another story since the Malibu loaner with less than 1000 on it stalled out on her, and they had to bring her another one....
