Stubby Antenna

Anyone try one of those “Stubby Antennas” yet? I’m looking to buy one, not for "the looks" but because I get a slight “Thawak” as we enter & exit the garage in my Encore (looks to be the same as my Sonic's).

Not overly bad for it just hits the trim molding of the door frame.

I’m just thinking it can’t be good for the long run.

I see a few on-line places selling for $12-$20.

Either that or I may just take the original and whack off an inch.

Unfortunately, I don't know too much about the stubby antennas. I know that one of the vendors here sells a "shark fin" antenna that has a lower profile. Someone will chime in with the vendor name, I'm sure.

Oh, and from what I understand of how antennas work, I think chopping some off might be bad. I believe the length controls what frequencies they're able to pickup, and disturbing that length might have unforeseen consequences. That's a guess though.

I have it on my Sonic, love it.
Its not as small as the antenna that comes on the Camaro or the Silverado, but it is much better than the stock thingy-ma-bobber.

******* off an inch besides effecting performance may cause the whole thing to fall apart over time. I think its wire wrapped around a fiberglass rod.

Order the stubby one from the Equinox, I have it and its a fair difference in overall height

The visual garage shark fin antenna is currently unavailable. I've talked to BNR about purchasing one and apparently the company is offline for the time being and hopes to be back up within the next few months.

OK, so how does the original come off?

It seems to only turn (counterclockwise) 1/4 turn?

Yes keep turning there are little plastic fingers/tabs/nubs that help keep in tightened

Does anyone know what size thread fits the original antenna. Looking at buying a shorter antenna and want to make sure I purchase on that fits

I believe the 2012-2014 model is an M6 x 1 thread size. That's my best guess when using calipers, but you could verify by taking it into a hardware store and comparing against a screw.

I got this Stubby from Amazon after I backed out of my garage too early and ripped my antenna off. Fits.
