Sunvisor mirror covers falling off

2013 Sonic LT sedan. Purchased brand new in early 2014. About a week ago, both mirror plastic hinged covers on both sunvisors fell off due to one plastic hinge breaking off on each cover. Nobody has ever used these mirrors or flipped the covers open, maybe once when I first got the car just to see what is under the cover.

This is another example of a cheap plastic part that will disintegrate in time just because it is made too flimsy to last. This is reminiscent of horrible sunvisor mirror covers installed on Chevy Blazers and S10s. These were even worse, because the mirror cover had to be closed to depress a small plunger switch to turn off the lighted mirror vanity light. With the broken cover, the light would stay on and the electrical lead had to be disconnected by removing and reinstalling the sunvisor.

It seems that GM has not learned and they keep producing these cheap parts, knowing full well that they will fall apart on their own (after basic warranty expiration of course). Is it that hard to design decent hinges into a plastic mirror cover? And if anybody from GM reads this, how about replacing these defective sunvisors for free? I am in no mood to spend $150 on a pair of cheap OEM sunvisors. You cannot buy just the mirrors or the mirror covers, they come as a complete sunvisor assembly.

Cool story bro. Somehow i find it hard to believe that things just break without them being touched. My 6 year old sun visors work just fine. If you need new visors go to a local junkyard and get them for $5. Don't moan and complain because you lack the knowledge to get things done on a reasonable basis.

How did you figure out that I lack the knowledge or ability to get used parts for cheap?

You obviously do not realize that it is the high ambient temperatures and humidity in Florida that makes these things fall apart without being touched. You cannot buy a used Chevy Blazer or S10 pickup here in Florida with its sunvisor mirror covers intact. Same for the dash bezel trim on these vehicles which cracks from heat without being mechanically disturbed.

I am the only driver of my Sonic and nobody else has messed with these sunvisors. Getting a pair from a junkyard here in Florida may not be the best solution, as they will be probably on the verge of falling apart if the car is as old as mine. If I find a late model Sonic with good sunvisors, I will probably get a set. There is plenty of lkqpickyourpart.com junkyards here in Central Florida.

Yesterday I got a couple of sunvisors in like new condition from a wrecked 2018 Sonic. They cost me $ 12 for both.
