Ive had my sonic for about 5 months and my water pump has gone bad!! It is a 1.4 and if i can recall didn't the cruz have this same issue? Ive got right at 16,000 miles on it. Any body else have this issue?

wow....5 months and you already got 16k on the clock..holy crap you must live in your car.

dunno nothing bout the chevy wp issue. but if it's an ewp like BMW you can expect to replace them every 60k or so. one thing you can do to extend the life is keep fresh coolant in them. it acts as a lubricant

Not sure why yours failed, does it have the right amount of coolant?

The water pump is covered by the 5 years 100k power train warranty . If it fails prematurely it will be covered . Gm always has issues with water pumps .

Which engine do you have the 1.4 or the 1.8? I am assuming they use the same water pump but not exactly sure on that. Can you help me with some info on this?

Sorry to hear that. You should contact your dealer for a diagnosis. The dealership would be able to tell why it went out. Also, the water pump is covered under the powertrain warranty.

Weird. Especially for a new car. Like everyone else said, must be a fluke.glad they are gonna take care of you though

that one must have crossed the line at the end of the day on a friday...or early monday morning.

we get weird stuff like that sometimes where i work. random missing bolts, loose bolts, pins backed out of wiring harnesses, bulbs missing or something like that on brand new cars. we just fix it when it's broke, that's all you can do.
