what would cause a hard sift from 1st to 2 gear

so my sonic when shift from 1st into 2 has a hard to doing it. also right before it goes into 2 gear the rpms seems to jump real high and jerk the car a little bit. my chevy cruze did this before to trans went out. that is the only real reason i post this here. just started doing it about 2 to 3 days ago. i have a sonic 1.8 auto lt2 2012 with 3,377 miles. if you read my other post i am having more then just this happen to me so could it be a one big problem. it dose not do this all the time but it has done it more thing 6 times. also the car is is warmed up when doing it.

Similar Problem

I have also been experiencing a similar problem. I have an automatic 1.4 turbo.

When it shifts from 3rd to 4th I often get higher than normal RPMs in 3rd, then an aggressive jerk into 4th. This happens both in regular automatic and pushbutton manual modes.

It does not happen all the time, but is becoming more frequent. I have noticed that after the car sits for a while it is more prone to doing it. Also, if I am parked at a decline it seems to make it do this sooner than if parked on level ground.

Anyone have a clue about this? I have a warranty but the dealership will not give me a rental until they can conclusively say they will need to keep the care more than a day. Unfortunately because of my job I cannot go without a car.

Sounds like both of you have either a valve sticking or excessive clutch travel. AustinLTZ, serious damage to your trans can occur if you don't have this looked at. A car rental for one day is cheap compared to a tow bill.

I have a hard down shift from 2nd to 1st in manual mode every once and a while and when I say hard I mean HARD. it feels like its about to rip its self apart when it does it. But it doesn't do it all the time and at first I thought I was downshifting at to high rpm but the second time it did that I was down near 1k. It has been doing this from when I first got it but it doesn't do it all the time. It'll do it every great once and awhile, enough to scare the crap out of you.

If it ends with the transmission needing replaced, ask them to throw in the manual transmission instead of another auto.

Kuntryboy, have your dealer check your TCM for codes. I am pretty sure those codes are all silent and OBDII scanners don't see them. You might also try to catch that on a data log.

Also one other thing is you can't downshift at too high RPMs with an auto. If the selected range is too low for your current speed it won't go until it has slowed down enough to do so.

This symptom could also be brought on by downshifting while on the brakes hard.
