Congrats on the haul. I keep a set of bungee cords and some paracord in my car in case of difficult loads. I know the trunk space is actually less than the sedan's, but I love the hatchback's utility. The third day I had mine, I had to use it to haul a new lawnmower.

Last time I researched it a few months ago you were never suppose to transport tvs this size laying down, both plasma and LCD due to the weight of the screen not being able to support it self. In fact some of them even say never to lay them flat even for a few minutes on a floor, forget about in a car going over bumps.
If you made it home and yours isn't damaged so be it but I would advise against it. Being the manufacturers say don't do it, and the fact people have damaged them and stores won't take them back in that case I would say no, a 50" does not fit in the Sonic.

LCD's must be upright 2-3 hours before turning on?? Now they are refrigerators?
LED means LED backlit LCD, they are the same in every way is LCD in this regard.
Never heard of an LED plasma nor does it make sense.

Myth: Unlike a plasma TV, it's okay to lay an LCD or LED TV flat when transporting in a car.
Reality: Larger LCD and LED TVs are constructed to have their weight balanced when set upright. So if you lay the screen flat, there won't be adequate support in the middle, which can lead to cracking or distortion on the edges if left that way over time. Add in the vibrations while driving a car, and the chance of cracking or distortion only increases.
Can't lay any of them down to transport without risking damage. Doesn't mean that it will break but the chances are there so why take the chance.

You may have worked at those places but my info is straight from the BestBuy website saying that none of them LCD, LED or Plasma can be laid flat without potential for damage that they will not cover. So why would they tell you it's ok then tell the world it is not??

Because when morons come in with geo metros n want a big screen loaded up we have to know the real truth. Believe what you want... no ones an expert here obviously my 2 cents didn't matter just trying to give input from a person who's been there done that.

I'm an electronic technician. I can repair tvs after people like you break them.
Give us a link to what an "LED PLASMA" tv is. Show us how smart you are. Then explain what effect letting an LCD tv stand up right for 2-3 hours would have.

People do contribute to the site, constantly.
However giving bad advise is NEVER beneficial to anyone. I am an electronic technician, that wasn't sarcasm.
The end result is yes a 50" and 55" can fit, and can make it home safely in a Sonic. However, it is still very risky to do and will not be covered by warranty if the display breaks. This doesn't mean this thread is bad, it can be very helpful especially to someone who wants a tv NOW and not when it can be delivered, many are willing to take the risk. Either way they should know that it is a risk.
Fact is you still have not provided the information backing up your statements that could cost folks thousands of dollars.
