You think this would fit in my Mustang? Would give lots of room for a bigger turbo. Stripped the car could probably weigh around the same as the Sonic, plus I could go on a diet lol.
I imagine that could be resolved with some welds here and there. I imagine that would probably be the hardest part. I would need a sonic ecu wouldn't I? But that's a given isn't it. Hmm somebody hold me accountable. I'm putting one either in my mustang or my cousins MR2. It's got a blown engine and he said if I can put an engine in I can have it for free
I mean theres far easier swaps for the mustang, with swap mounts, headers, cables, ecus, hoses etc already ready to go, all the issues worked out by guys who have done it. Honestly I think the 1.4 would be a underpowered in a 3000-3400 lb car, needs more torque.
You could do it, yes, but a known swap would save $ in the long run.
MR2 is mid engine, that'd be opening up a can of worms.
I think this swap would be perfect for a *front engine RWD car that weighs under 2400lbs.
Very good point, i totally forgot that was a mid eng car.
I think thats why im really drawn to the 63 Falcon. Love the body style but also that its only 2.5k lbs and why my first choice is a svo 2.3.. maybe even the drive train from the ecoboost stang... but after seeing that link for the 1.4t rwd that guy is doing def puts it on my list of options.
I did see a 70 tbird local to me for sale, may take a peek at it. That i know is def not an option for the 1.4, shes in the 3k range if i remember right.
Well the thing about the MR2 is that it's supposed to be a FWD car set up backwards. If I remember the engine bay correctly it pretty much looks like a giant hole with a fwd drive train sitting in it. I've only seen it a few times though so I'd have to take a look again.
Jesus, the reason ppl say that is Toyota used some front suspension parts in the rear. I think thats def a car not to experiment engine swaps with... Mustang would be better in if u shed a few hundred lbs & go with a bigger turbo.
If u wana go GM Im thinking a truck 5.3 would be better for the Mustang. Not very expensive & probs been done.
I've been thinking of building one of these/like this, not from the kit, but build my own frame. The Cobalt motor and trans are cheap, very capable, and very stout.
Zomby - A Suzuki 1.3 'Busa or Honda d16 non-VTEC-yo with valve springs/cam and head work would be more fun in that deathtrap. Revving 9-10k rpm with a smooth N/A powerband sounds a LOT more fun in that application. The torquey GM forced induction 4cyl's will leave you sliding out all over the road.
A 2.4 eco is good for a veryeasy and very reliable 200/200 with a tune, cost's almost nothing, and in a 1500lb car puts you in Z06 territory with power to weight ratio. You can't say that about a D16 or Busa motor.
