After some consideration I'm leaning toward sticking with the stock 15" alloy rims and going with a year-round tire. The weather here in the Midwest is too changeable even in mid-winter for me to be entirely comfortable running snows, and besides I'm short on storage space for a second wheel set.
So, having probably decided to go for a higher-end all-season, I'm looking for a recommendation. I'm leaning toward one of the following two tires; the Continental PureContact with Ecoplus, and the Nokian WR G3. The Continental is an all-season, a stiffer side walled, better handling tire than the cheaper ProContact, that happens to get a very high across-the-board rating from TireRack; the Nokian, not available from TireRack, is the only "all-weather" as opposed to all-season available in the US, the "all-weather" designation reflecting solid summer performance combined with its certification for winter use by Transport Canada and being legal for winter use in places such as Quebec and the California mountains that require snow tires at a minimum. I'm also considering a Michelin, the Premier A/S, but that was only introduced this spring, so is as yet unproven in snow thought its predecessor, the Primacy, was fairly highly rated for winter by TireRack surveys as well.
If you're familiar with the winter and/or summer performance of these tires it would be much appreciated. I favor better handling over ride, but want low rolling resistance, which these all are.
Note that the V- or higher-rated performance all season stuff like the Continental DWS is generally not available in the LT 15 inch size, so, for that reason, I'm not looking into it further. These are pretty much H-rated tires I'm considering.
