Ha! Eric, I was just looking for that same angle on your new wheels and tires. I know I saw it somewhere but can't seem to find it now.

What's the widest tire I could run on the stock 15s? I don't care too much about how it looks just wondering how wide I can go before I run the risk of haveing safety issues.

I know its far from the best solution and I shouldn't go wider than O.E.M. but I'd like to know what can be done and still be reliable.

225/45 would probably fit.

That size on a 15 inch rim is about 2 inches smaller in diameter. I'm am however looking for lightweight 15X7 rims with that size for autocrossing. That would give me the similar effect of the RS transmission. And I would be able to pull out of tight corners in 2nd gear better.

215/60/15 would be the widest on the stock 6 inch rims and be very close to stock diameter.

I still think he could cram a 225 on there. 215 would probably make life easier though.

You're correct. Either slighly oversized 225/60/15, mainly touring tires or 225/50/15 with more perfomance oriented tires that would put it about an inch smaller.
