absolutely turbo. i still think you're way high on price point though. The Cobalt had way more engine to offer at 25,000. chevy will get no sales if it's priced that high. This is a sportier Aveo.
Agreed with the over price comment. This isn't a huge turbo by any means, just enough to give it a little more quick and turbo badge.
I would love to get the turbo option but it comes down to what the wife feels is necessary. I already have my toy so she probably won't let me go the turbo route.
Will be interesting how many people buy it just for the Turbo tag on the rear end of the car. Could be a car dealerships selling point, to up sell the car.
Don't have much choice, since the Turbo only comes with the 6-speed, and you usually can't get the technology packages with M/Ts so, I'll have to get the automatic with the base engine.
Turbo for sure. Can't wait to have it's potential unlocked, I'm hoping Z-spec will offer stage aftermarket performance like mopar did for the neon srt-4.
Turbo'd I'd go for, and it shouldn't be over $20,000 I mean if so might as well get a Cruze Eco, same exact engine setup and its turbo'd too for $18,000. Cruze is a slightly bigger car....hell we could see it go for $16,000 turbo base version with no additional options.
Chances are that the turbo will be part of a "performance" package- you'll probably be forced to at least get larger wheels with it, maybe an aero kit. Hopefully it comes in under $18k.
Maybe there will be a Sonic "Eco" like the Cruze, to get the turbo without the other frills.
You are probably right Screamer, expect the Turbo Sonic to come with more than just a turbo under the hood, and a price tage to match all the additional features.
I think this may be one of those cars where we see more turbo models on the road and on the dealership lots then base models. Chevy will up sell the turbo model like crazy and produce decent stock if they were smart, its an easy sell to most people.
I CANNOT BELIEVE the Greenhorn previous posts opting for the Turbo. Check the specs dudes: SAME horsepower. Same standard mill that is in the much heavier Cruze! Standard mill Sonic is gonna get you away from the stop sign and deliver the low end grunt to get you onto the Freeway in style! Why mess with a Turbo and the expensive maintenance at 100K (or less!). Yep. And put a Badge on it: “Turbo.” Explain that to a copper when he pulls you over. Greenhorn Teen Boyz we’re reading here . . .
Thats why GM is so smart for putting a turbo in it. The sales alone for customers who want to have the Turbo badge on their car will make GM and the Sonic very successful.
i'm going for the LT with turbo, don't care about all the LTZ stuff. Plus my 110 lbs puppy dog would be hell on the leatherette, so cloth is the only way to roll for me.
and since we are talking about what this little turbo'd engine can do. This tuning company has been reworking the PCM for the cruze eco and are getting 152 HP and 193 FT/LBS at the wheels. I know where my PCM for the sonic is going!!! The trade off from what i've read on some other forums is that you have to go to premium gas, but since i have to buy premium for my buell and premium for my X5... /shrug..
not sure if your joking or not. i've owned a few turbo cars and have had no problem with them. as long as you do what your suppose to as in letting the car warm up and letting it cool down before you shut it off to let the oil temps go down, it should be fine. the reason is most americans are in such a rush they shut there cars down right away so all the hot oil is still in the turbo and over time that will crack away at the turbo housing. ignorance is not the cars fault.
anyways, i will be going with the turbo model. the added tq that it puts out will be great and of course the better aftermarket down the road. but if the price ends up close to the 20k mark.. i may rethink as that price range puts it in a different price bracket with different cars( like the cruze)
