Engine louder after timing belt change

Well I am the one that did the timing belt job. The alternator was not pried on at any point. The serpentine belt was removed by loosening the belt tension.

Engine louder after timing belt change

UPDATE: took a mechanjcs stethoscope and started poking around. The alternator sounded like it was going to blow up. Took the serpentine belt off and started the car, noise went away. Spinning the alternator by hand revealed the bearings felt very gritty and had a noticeable catch spot. New...

    Sludge buildup??

I do 5000 between changes. Always use the dexos certified synthetic. I had my valve cover off to do the timing belt a month ago and the head was clean. Gold colored discoloration but zero sludge buildup anywhere.

Engine louder after timing belt change

I was actually thinking about the 2 piece cover last night. We just got DUMPED on with snow and ice so this is on hold for a bit. I'll go start it later and see if the sound changes with throttle. My first thought was to pull the serpentine belt and start it and see if the noise went away...

Engine louder after timing belt change

Did the timing belt about 400 miles ago on my 2012 1.8L. Now it's louder than normal. I used the gates kit from rockauto for the swap. New tensioner and pulley and belt. See video for noise. Thanks! https://youtube.com/shorts/shrrHcsgBKE?feature=share

if you had a billion dollars would the sonic still be your first car of choice?

I would get a subaru. My car now is a subaru outback, wife is driving the sonic. Just had to do a timing belt and new valve cover on the sonic. Stupid pcv valve design. No real big complaints on the sonic though. Some stuff wore out before I thought it should but it is a more economy car.

    Control arm bushing replacement

Soooooooo now that the forum is back, I wanted to update. The driver side end link lower bolt was ever so slightly loose. I had to play with all sorts of pressure on the suspension with the jack under the control arm to figure it out. I am keeping an eye on it, if it comes back I need new...

    Control arm bushing replacement

I have a 2012 sonic plagued with front end noises. It has the Moog end links and new moog greaseable ball joints. Control arms a year ago,, and they are cheap ones. It is now making a popping sound from the driver side only on bumps big or small. I suspect the front bushing on the control arm, I...

P0442- changed purge valve and gas cap, code came back

2012 1.8 auto, 79k miles. Have the infamous p0442 code. Changed the gas cap, code came back. New purge valve in the engine bay, code came back. Checked new valve with mityvac, checks good. Thoughts? I had the 0171 code about a year ago for the cracked intake hose. New hise fixed that.

    2012 Coolant Leak

So I park in the garage to be greeted with the unmistakeable scent of coolant burning off the engine somewhere. I quickly see that it is coming down the drivers side of the radiator. It is not leaking from the upper rad hose. It appears to be wet all down the drivers side of the radiator, and...

    Random click/clank noise issue

2012 sonic with a 1.8 motor. It makes a very strange click or tick tock noise while driving. It doesn't correspond to engine rpm, vehicle speed, throttle inputs or lack of them, nothing. Dealer said they couldn't hear it, but everyone else who has been in my car hears it. I want to rule out...

Hey all, I like to do all my own maintenance on my vehicles, and this Sonic will be no different. I had a Bentley service manual for my volkswagen, and I am wanting something similar for my new Sonic. Any leads on where I can get the service manual for this car? Not sure if it's out yet, but I...
