We are happy to show off one of our newest products going into production for the 1.4L turbo Sonic, the DDMworks Intercooler Diverter.
For those not familiar with the stock 1.4L intercooler, it is located at the bottom of the front grill. When looking at the design, the intercooler is well made and works well with the stock tune, however on repeated pulls and/or with a tune the stock intercooler starts to warm up. We took a look at the design of the stock setup and designed a new intercooler diverter to help the efficiency of the stock intercooler. The way the new intercooler diverter works is by shrouding the sides and the top of the stock intercooler to help force more air through the intercooler. With more air going through the stock intercooler, more heat can be taken away and helps to keep your intake temps low and more consistant from pull to pull.
The DDMworks intercooler diverter is made from high quality 304 Stainless Steel. Stainless Steel was choosen because it looks great and even after road debris and small rocks hit it, the intercooler diverter will keep looking great on your car for years to come without rusting or chipping.
The DDMworks intercooler diverter is going to be $125 and is in production now with the first shipments leaving between May 18th and the 25th.
Ordering details and website link will be put up next week.
To give you a better idea of how it works, here are some pictures of the stock intercooler as delivered from the factory without any shrouding:
Here are some pictures of the prototype intercooler diverter installed on the stock intercooler. Notice how we shroud the top and the sides of the intercooler to help force more air through the intercooler, instead of the air going around the side and over the top. This is going to be a great upgrade for those that are looking to maximize the stock setup without going to a much more expensive full intercooler replacement.
Thanks!
Dave
