2014 Won't Crank intermittently

Hi all.

I have a 2014 Sonic, 1.8L, 176000 Miles. (6 AUTO)

For the last week it has been having starting problems. Ill break it down below.

When the car is cold ( off for more than 4 hours ) it will start easily, first turn of the key.

When the car is hot ( driven in the last 5-10 minutes ) it will start easily, first turn of the key.

any time between 10 minutes after shut off to 4 hours, nothing. No Crank, starter does not try to engage.

WHAT I HAVE TRIED:

Switched High Current starter relay in engine fuse panel with known good relay. ( also jumpered the relay to test starter operation when the engine will not turn over. When jumpered starter engages and cranks engine, but engine does not start)

Had load test done on battery at autozone, Passed with 540CCA.

Checked all Starter, ignition and ECM/BCM fuses. All good.

Checked neutral safety switch, PASSED

PK3 Security light is operating normally. No codes and normal flashing of LED

Had autozone pull ODB codes, got P1682 and P0302
P1682 suggests it may be the starter switch, which I have ordered to arrive tomorrow
P0302, and what I have read here led me to order the exhaust Cam position sensor, which should arrive on Saturday.

Has anyone here had this issue, or could anyone provide any suggestions on tests I may not have thought of?

solved. After replacing ignition switch ( just the electrical switch, not the cylinder), ignition coil swap and exhaust cam sensor with no luck, it turns out I have a bad connection between the crank/ start relay I replaced earlier and the fuse block. When I push the relay to one side she fires eulogy up. Now trying to decide if I should mount the relay externally or replace the fuse block.

update: slightly twisted the pins on the relay and it is now in the socket tightly and seems to be working well

Glad you got that fixed! As a 2015 1.8L owner, I’m just wondering how long you’ve had the car, 176K miles is impressive! Any other problems? Just curious, thanks!
