i notice a lot of people have 2.5" pipe for the exhaust. im just curious if i ran the anaconda down/mid pipe with a 3" catback with a res if it will work or will it be to much airflow?
Precisely. 3" is very much an overkill and while I'm no scientist, but I believe I read that too little backpressure also isn't good for performance.
I thought that wasnt the case with forced induction vehicles? I may be wrong though.
Turbos generally appreciate an oversized exhaust. That being said, If was going to do it over, I would have built myself a 2.5" for this car. The 3" I built drones like a MF'er. I had to build a helmholtz res to subdue enough not to go crazy. Overall sound is great, and it's not loud either. However, from 3-3.5K under moderate load, it resonates through the interior badly enough that the plastic parts start to buzz....
When I was testing the Anaconda, I tested it through the stock exhaust, and without any exhaust. The difference was only 4whp and 5wtq.
Based on the data, the 3" I made is only adding noise in the cabin. A 2.5" exhaust should be more than adequate and not make your ears hurt.
Hmmm I know that when I didn't have a muffler and it was just straight piped, it was super loud. And it'd vibrate my interior and that's with the ZZP system. I also got 5 tickets for insufficient muffler. I still get pulled over once a month for my exhaust now
OK. If you guys aren't running mufflers, disregard what I started above. I run 2 mufflers on the 3" and the 2.5"cat-back I did for Modified's Sonic used two mufflers as well.
Without mufflers, it's gonna drone regardless of the size tubing you use.

I'd go with a magnaflow muffler on the straight pipe. I have it and its still loud, growls like a lion, and has no drone!![]()
Hellz yeah! This is exactly what I have - the anaconda, 2.5" after the cat and a Magnaflow muffler. You can hear me coming!!![]()
