Add-On HD Radio Tuner?

Howdy.

New Sonic owner here. 2015 LTZ hatch w/ the "MyLink" 6-speaker infotainment system. Love my new (to me) car. Hate the sound system - disappointed.

A big frustration is the removal of HD Radio. Makes zero sense! I've considered changing the head unit - but dang, with all the integration and the back up camera, I'm concerned about losing features and functions, and with spending a bundle of money!

Anyone done a HD Radio tuner add-on?

Are there other HD Radio tuner add-ons out there? Seems odd that there aren't - at least that I'm seeing...


Planning on a sub - probably a JL Audio PowerWedge+ 10" powered sub. And replacement speakers, and probably <sigh> an amp. Don't really wanna spend all that money! But dang - the stereo's weak...

You won't need an amp to drive the factory speakers over the JL 10. I have the TW3 being driven by 500w Alpine and the stock keeps up with the sub.

I don't listen to radio, so no point in me worrying about HD. I do stream YouTube or Google music and it sounds great for an economy car!

Thanks for your feedback on the balance of the factory speakers to your sub. Problem is, I'm not sure I like the way the factory speakers sound. But I've got the bass cranked and the mids killed, so I might feel differently w/ them running flat and the sub taking the lows instead of trying to force lows out of the door speakers.

Definitely helps them crank when they aren't processing bass. For most music I have the bass at -8, mid at -2 to +2, and treble at +8.

The stock speakers aren't the best and I will upgrade them at some point. I will definitely invest in an amp for them at that time (although I have thought about installing one now just to clean up the signal and decide of the speakers suck or if it's the head unit)

A concern I share! In which case, I don't need to worry about the HD Radio tuner.

Best bet is to get a portable HD radio with a headphone jack and plug it in your aux input. I had to get a portable HDAP because of the no cd player so I can still buy cheap used cd's and listen to them lossless. No steering wheel controls though.

I got a deal on my Alpines SP160'S (about 130...)and didn't have to mod the main speaker hangers but the tweets got hot glued in, also easy to cut out and put back stocks if needed... did the Alpine 45x4 universal amp very small and very loud and clear (about 120.00) then did the 10 in the spare tire hole sealed with a Alpine 500 watt amp.. (about 400 for both) works great and on the cheaper side and more so if you do it yourself... I did change my head unit from the non mylink to a Kenwood double din because I wanted touch screen.
