Almost New Sonic Owner

Hello Sonic Owners,

Almost three weeks ago I placed an order for a Summit White Hatch LTZ w/ Brick interior and the Turbo 1.4L engine. I'm slowly becoming obsessed with the car the more I read into the forums and watch the reviews. The wait (which I thought wouldn't be bad) feels like forever and I'm 100% ready to get out of my trade-in vehicle. I do have a couple questions.

I've seen a few other owners that detailed the tracking of their vehicle but when/where do I get the tracking information? Is the dealer supposed to contact me when they get the VIN?

Also, this is probably premature but I'm curious about the break-in period. It seems the topic is almost as hot as what type of oil should be used. I get a feeling the car should be driven "normal" as opposed to "granny slow" but some people say to drive it hard...that is difficult for me to accept. Is there a general consensus regarding this topic?

I'm sure I'll have more questions and I'm excited to join this community of friendly Sonic owners

When I got my car, I just drove it lightly(minimal heavy acceleration) for the first 500 miles or so. After that, I just drove it normally with heavy acceleration when necessary. I don't know if it's "right" but that's what I did.

I don't know if they will contact you when they get the VIN, but you could always and call them to ask.

Personally, I drove mine pretty softly for the first 1250-1500. Now I feel comfortable gettin' in the gas and showing off, squealin' the tires a bit.
I'm at 2100 miles, due for a free oil change soon, even though the dealer and OnStar both tell me I can wait till 8k or so, I'm def not waiting that long for the first one.

Congrats on the order. I'm interested to see the white with red and black interior. I think the rule of thumb is usually drive easy for 1000 miles and then your good to go.

My break in consisted of some light driving up to about 500 miles then between 500 and 1000 some more spirited driving when necessary then my oil change around 1200 or so.

However, try not to stay in the same rpm range, i.e long freeway trip for the first few hundred miles. I floored mine out of the dealer parking lot and have been doing it ever since. That's a good article. I bet if you asked the dealership to change your oil at 20 miles they would look at you like your crazy haha.

Didn't realize the wait was going to feel like forever haha. I'm getting so anxious to hear about the car. Also surprised how many Sonics I've seen around my area considering the car came out late last year. I have a feeling this car could be the next big thing.

Disregard the Chevy tracking site referenced earlier. It is completely worthless. You could literally have your car in your driveway and the Chevy site will still say "no tracking info available"

Almost almost here

Dealer told me a little over a week ago that the Sonic should be at the dealer this coming Monday. Already have a shop scheduled to install 3M film and I'm taking a day off work to get it all done.

Now that it's starting to sink in I'm having second thought....not sure why I guess because I'm so worried about the unknowns of buying such a new car.

I'm prolly picking up the car on Thursday and getting the film installed Friday. Pics soon to come.
