I finally found a cargo mat for my 2014 hatchback. I won't say it's perfect (what is?) but it's pretty good and should meet my needs.
It's rubber-like with a honeycomb texture. The honeycombs are about 3/4 inch across. They're designed to hold liquids and dirt. It weighs just under 12 pounds. It's fairly flexible but heavy enough to stay put. It has nubs on the bottom to help hold it in place, that is, not slide around. The fit is absolutely perfect. Apparently the seller has a large roll of the stuff and patterns to cut to fit, sort of like window tint is done.
It's sturdy enough that tossing in shoes, backpacks, sporting equipment, yard tools, etc shouldn't be a problem.
I typically have both seats down but occasionally have a third passenger so raise one of the back seats. I almost never raise both back seats. I modified it by making a cut to raise just one seat. I also cut out notches for the seat latch but that was a mistake. After trying it I think it would better to just roll that section down and out of the way. It is not stiff enough to stay upright against the seat when the seat is raised. It's easy enough to roll the rear end out of the way to access the storage area underneath.
