well now we all know that the back speakers suck, or do they? i riped my baby apart and found they are the same speakers as the front, well they had a different sticker but both were 4Ω 20w speakers so i figured there had to be a disconnect somewhere els. i found this was in the radio its self, so this is how i fixed it, some may like it and if you do here you go.
So, Step 1: Remove the back door trim, pretty simple but if you dont know here you go. remove the black plastic covering above window. With that removed feel the bottom for a place to pull on the trim and then pull. the whole area should pop off. once thats off remove speakers. and wires. make note to the way the wires in the harness line up on the speaker, they should be labeled 1 and 2 or a and b. as long as you get the sides correct you will be fine.
Step 2: Remove the radio. pull the trim around the radio off, if you cant figure it out, pull the little pices in the cubby holes next to the radio, they reveal a hole that allows you to pull the trim around the radio. remove the 4 screws holding in the radio and then disconnect the wires in the rear.
step 3: run the wire. you will see the wire harness that connects to the door, on the harness there is a tab on top, press that and pull away from the car to pop it off, run the wire how ever is easy for you, i found it easyer to just run it from inside the door, through the loon and on top of the harness threw the hole the clip for the cover sits, there is enough clearance for it to snap back in. After you do that run the wire to the radio. to do this i personally pulled the pillar from the side of the car, it just pops like everything in the car. and then feed it up behind the radio.
Step 4: connect the speakers in door. this part as well is up to you just make sure you do it securely and safely. I personally striped the wires about a inch long and wrap it around the metal that connects to the speaker. you can solder it or cut and use the old harness but this allows me to not do unrecoverable damage. again taking note to the stripe on the speaker wire to were the old speaker wire connected so you don't mess with polarization and that fun stuff.
Step 5: connect the speakers at the harness. again do as you wish but this is how i did it. strip about 1/8in wire and solder it so that the wire doesn't come apart. once you solder all 4 sides flatten them with some kind of wrench so that it can fit in the harness and trim with wire cutters so that again it fits. place the stripe side under the stripe side on the front speaker for the respective side. The color combos are further down.
step 6: connect the harness and other wired to the radio and test it out. Dont forget that the setting on the radio just reset so go mess with the tune options. You no longer have fade to back because you just connected to the front, but if you did it correct you can retain left right functions as well as all the treble, mid and bass tho i do think these speakers are limited to bass, i haven't tested this theory out as i added a sub lol. the back speaker wires will still work if you choose to tap them for a sub like i did just remember to adjust to allow for rear sound if you choose to turn it off at this point.
Step 7: If the speakers work replace all the trim exactly how you removed it, just in reverse.
Step 8: Enjoy, Hopefully!
Color code for speakers:
tweeters: driver= blue, brown/blue...passenger=yellow, yellow/black
front: driver= blue, brown/blue...passenger=yellow, yellow/black
back: driver=green, green/black...passenger=white, blue/black
Troubleshooting:
no sound in the back? check connections, make sure the wires are connected at the radio and the speaker. ensure the negative is connected to negative wire and same for positive.
Anything els? No idea lol mess around and if that don't work put to stock, if that don't work keep stock and talk to gm,
lol
