Hi folks,
Last night I drove in heavy fog and the check engine light went on. Moisture related? It's still on today, I didn't notice any other issues until I went out tonight and found my car iced over. Tried to start the engine remotely while approaching it and it didn't work. The engine doesn't have any problem starting the usual way. Got out because I wanted to see if the remote start would work again. The fan turned on for a few seconds, then nothing. Kept trying and the fan only did that once, the rest of the time I just heard a click and the engine never started.
At that point I just wanted to go home and started scraping down the car. Turned on the car the usual way and turned on the back wiper, but it was apparently frozen so I turned it off right away and went to scrape off the ice. As soon as I scraped off the ice the wiper suddenly moved electronically so it was headed straight down. I thought it was loose but it's on so tightly I'm afraid to cram it into the correct position. Now when I turn it on, the wiper goes up and down like from 6:00 to midnight on one side!
I let my On Star expire last month (of course!) so I can't call them for a code. I'd hate to bring my car to the dealer because I bought this way across town, and of course the weather is getting crappy again and here I am without a rear wiper and now I'm not sure about the rear defrost either. I usually just have it on automatically this time of year, but I was surprised nothing melted at all when I was scraping the car. It's possible I had accidentally turned it off earlier when I jacked up the heat, and not thinking I didn't notice if it was on, just made sure it was on for the drive home. Short drive so I don't know if it's working or not.
I'm thinking the remote start doesn't work because the check engine light is on.
Any thoughts?
