"Chevrolet" and "Made in USA" missing on Sonic?

I'm just curious…

For those who already have the new Chevy Sonic, have you been able to find if there's anything on the car that say's "Chevrolet" or "Made in the USA"?

Anywhere?

GM is certainly everywhere… as with the "bow-tie". But "Chevrolet" and "Made in the USA" seems to be missing. I thought for sure I'd see at least the latter.

If you find it, would you please reply where it is on the car? Components like the battery doesn't count. I'm looking for something on the frame/chassis/body of the vehicle.

The sales man that sold me the car was aking what i liked about for a another buyer that was looking and i was telling him to throw made in usa out there and he was like nah... confused

The bow tie *is* the Chevrolet logo. You really dont see much explicit company branding in recent years, its all about model branding. You should find point of assembly and major component source percentage on the driver's door jamb sticker.

I agree. But all mine say's is: "MFD BY GENERAL MOTORS LLC" on the door jam.
Without: "Made in the USA." Does yours say something different?

Your window sticker has the percentage of parts sourcing information.

I have never looked for a Made in USA emblem for a car. Did not know any car carried one.

I would guess the closest one could get to an almost wholly Made in USA Cevy car would be either a ZR1/Z06 or a manual transmissioned Grand Sports.

Their engines are assembled in Wixom while the rest of the Corvette engines are assembled in Mexico.

The Tremec TR-6060 may be assembled in the USA or in Mexico.

Even then, a good percentage of parts are sourced from abroad.

I guess the proper term would be: Final Assembly Point and that does appear on the Window Sticker. I can't say anything about the door jamb because mine came without that particular little yellow sticker.

Thats got me wondering where the other 33% of my sonic comes from...... Lol

Yeah… I mention this because on the door jam in my last car (Smart fortwo), said it was made in France, the car I had before (Honda), said Made in Japan, and my wife's Lexus also say's Made in Japan.

Even though other parts on the Sonic do come from other countries, I was hoping the final assembly point would qualify it to say, Made in the USA.

The silver sticker at the bottom rear of the driver’s side door jamb does not specifically say “Made (or Assembled) in the U.S.A."

Apparently, GM has decided to use only the corporate name and rely on the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to show the origin. A VIN beginning with “1,” “4” or “5” identifies a U.S.-made vehicle; “2” identifies a Canadian-made vehicle.

This is the 2011 list and does not show Sonic or Verano, made by members of UAW 5960 at Orion Assembly Center in Lake Orion, Michigan.

you can easily tell by the first digit of the VIN number of any vehicle where its put together.

1 USA
2 Canada
3 Mexico

It should also be noted that most Small block V8s are indeed US and Canadian built, some are yes Mexican, Built...including sadly the LSA. Sort of brings a tear to your eye knowing the Fastest Cadillac around the ring has a non-us sourced motor...kinda block and heads are cast there, sounds like its hand done up in Michagan for final assembly, "what ev". However the Mexico plant is pretty good. GM has invested a whole lot of capital in the Small Block program, including plans for Small Blocks to be Built at the GM Tonawanda engine plant in...good o' Buffalo, NY. Direct Injection, smaller displacement, superchargers, all the more fuel efficient tricks with MORE POWER!!

Based on these guides, looks like GM is moving 1.8 production to Mexico form Korea, probably just filling Sonics with them till production is ramped up enough.

A lot of stuff is cheaper sourced from over seas... the fact that the cars are still assembled in the states, is because it costs way more to ship a fully assembled car than it is to ship parts...

I don't know if they do anymore, but Honda certainly used to put "Honda MFG USA" pretty promently on the radiator supports in the 90's on the ones they assembled here.

ABC WORLD NEWS: "Made In America!"

I don't know if anyone watches ABC's WORLD NEWS with Diane Sawyer, but they've been having a series on "Made in America" since the recession started.
Although I more accurately call it, "Made in the USA!" I understand what they're saying.

It was because of this series, I cemented my desire to want a Chevrolet Sonic.
My original choice was the 2013 Chevy Spark (to replace my 2008 Smart ForTwo), but with GM touting the "Made in the USA" Sonic and it's "Corvette Engineered" suspension, I caved-in and decided to get the 2012 Sonic over the 2013 Spark.

I knew the VIN # would reflect that the Sonic was assembled in the USA, I just was hoping the manufacture's label on the driver's door jam would say it too in the words, "Assembled in the USA." No biggie… I was just surprised that it didn't.
