Craig's list crazies or me?

I have been looking all over for a motorcycle. I've found the type I want and I found a site that finds all of this type of motorcycle on Craigslist. I've also checked cycle trader.

Cycle trader had one bike listed at a dealer 200 miles away and the price was dead on. I call and they already sold it.

Now I check Craig's list and find two more and both are $1000 over kbb. I messaged both owners, one 2week old ad the other a 3 day old add.

The three day old ad's bike had a broken radiator reservoir and a few mods. He was asking a thousand over kbb I offered him $300 less than kbb, as an initial offer. He said don't bother making another offer I'll keep it before selling at that price... Ok?

The second guys bike was in nice shape. I offered him kbb value and sent him a link. He responded to my first message asking if it was still available but not to my offer... Wtf?

Am I crazy for not wanting to over pay? Or are these just unmotivated Craigslist sellers? The way I look at it I'm offering retail value to a private seller. That should be a high number compared to what they should expect.

No, people just think their Sh*ts worth gold. I've been there done that. What kind of bike you looking for? Did you try "search tempest?" I've seen people asking over nada for beat up and wrecked bikes.

I've had luck getting used household items from here. You'll have to make a quick profile, but I think that's what makes it better. The items have an actual owner with a profile and previous transaction details, kinda ala eBay.

Since my post I found a bike talked to the guy, told him I could come see him in a couple days to buy it and asked if he was free in the afternoons... No response back. I text him and tried to call a few more times, he will no longer respond to me. [emoji23] damn craigslist people. Now I'm talking to another kid I was like I'll come see it now or when ever and he's like I just left for spring break I'll be back Monday. So I'm gonna give him a chance if he works out, cool if not oh well.

Ya... I hate the flakelist people. .. I had a PAIR.. of VW tires and rims for sale... listed as a PAIR.. 5 people wrote asking is that all 4??... needless to say they got no response... my tongue was bleeding and fingers taped to stop me from going off on them....

A buddy of mine is looking for a cheap bike and he has dealt with more than a couple craigslist people that either wont respond or are shady about the bike.

I finally gave up. I actually changed my mind on the bike too. I was looking for a used drz but I've never owned a fuel injected bike and I was looking for a small light weight fun bike. I decided on the 300 class.

I can buy new for what I was gonna get a drz for and its fuel injected.

I know most see these as "beginner bikes" but I owned a ninja 250 before this class took off. It was my favorite bike I've ever owned. It cornered better than any of my larger sport bikes. On top of that you can ride it like you stole it and not speed tooooo much. (Unlike my zx7r where if u pull the throttle back ur doing 70-90 in second gear [emoji849]) on top of that they are capable on the highway. My 250 was able to do 98mph with new gearing and the 300s bring it to a new level.

So I've already picked out the one I like I think.... I wanted the ktm but it's got some mixed reviews and it's slightly above where I wanted to be. Plus I don't love the way it looks... To me ktm makes bad ass but very ugly bikes lol.

I went to the Yamaha dealer yesterday to get a new tire on my vstar and kind of fell in love with R3. The dealer won't let me ride it but most reviews put it as the best all around bike in the class. Plus that blue. [emoji7] So my next day off is Tuesday and I'm going to see if I can bring one home [emoji106]

Why won't they let you test ride it? You have a bike now. I loved my ninja 250 as well and have owned numerous large bikes. I think if there another Yamaha dealer I'd go see if they would let you try. Also, find any used ones? What about a ninja 300r?

For the most part, Craigslist is a crap shoot. I've pretty much altogether stopped using it for second-hand transactions. I bought my last bike which was a 2005 Kawi Ex250 through CL. Offered the seller $250 less than asking price which was fair since it wasn't running, so I got it for $1250. After a lot of youtube research I was able to clean the carb and get it running. It had less than 1,000 miles when I bought it.

Unfortunately due to my schedule, I had little time to ride and no one to ride with me. So I ended up selling it. Made the mistake of posting it on CL and this one broke student would simply not take no for an answer. At first, he offered me less than I paid for it. I was firm, but we eventually settled on $1400, plus a new, in-box xbox 360 kinect. Never again will I use Craigslist.

Now I use an app called "letgo" I've sold a handful of items on there. I've come to realize when posting that you need to ask twice what you are willing to accept for the item cause more often than not idiots will immediately offer 50% of the asking price. Then you have those rare folks who don't haggle at all which is pleasant surprise. I will say I've had some idiot offer me $10 for a Wii bundle that is worth at least $200. Then they sent me a couple messages after asking why I haven't responded. I then said, for your $10 offer...no.

Yeah Craig's list is a joke.

The only thing I liked about the ninja over the R3 was the slipper clutch. I've not had one for this long I'm sure I'll be ok. Plus I think the r3 is 27k miles between valve adjustment and the ninja is every 7k [emoji15]

Edit: none of the dealers here let u test ride new bikes. I thought about used but I'm tired of searching and I have a friend that works there.
