Preface: Please forgive me if I use the wrong part names. Feel free to suggest a better location for this thread. This is on a 1.4T 6-speed manual transmission.
While doing my first oil change on the car (after my free dealership ones), I noticed a mismatch hole pattern and a gap between the engine and transmission housing.
As a mechanical engineer, I absolutely understand having bolt patterns accommodate different mating parts so not all holes are used or sometimes edges don't align.
However, can anyone with another 1.4 manual transmission confirm that this is normal? Also, the heavy amount of grease build up in the area (which I started to wipe off) is concerning. This is what my mid-80's Porsche looked like a few years ago, not what I expected a two-year-old car to look like.
Here are some pictures.
The oil pan is on the left, drain plug just outside the frame:
As viewed from the transmission side:
A closer look:
Thanks in advance for easing my paranoia.
