Could not get past the egg shape and the busy dash. Drove Fiesta but not ST. For me, I gotta like it when I first see it.

I can't speak to the fiesta, however, I also have a 2013 focus SE that we bought used that I like a lot. A bit more spirited than the sonic, it has the dual clutch tranny, which the dealer said is basically a stick shift controlled by a computer. Knock wood, we had some trans issues when we first got the car with 16,000 miles, but the dealer put new clutch packs in it and reprogrammed it. I'm almost at 42,000 miles and so far so good. Only other thing was we had issues with the radio not starting in the morning, but that was covered by the warranty as well for me.
Oh yeah? I heard they had some CVT issues...
You mean your focus is more spirited than the 1.4T sonic?

I have the 1.8 sonic, the LT model. That being said, the focus SE for what it is can move. It's a 6 speed I think. As I get more used to it, I'm finding sometimes I'll go to pass someone and put the gas down, and the thing sometimes does not shift till about 6000 rpms or 6500. Kind of fun.
One day I was passing a guy, had 2 other people in the car, went to pass a semi on a 2 lane, so I put the pedal down just to get around him, sitting at about 75-80 mph just trying like I said to get past, and next thing I know, the focus shifts in the next gear and takes off. The thing had another gear left which surprised me a bit. It's not a fast car, but it's fun for what it is.
If I understand correctly though, it's not a CVT. It's the powershift automatic with the dual clutch setup on it I think. However, ours had issues with shaking and hesitating etc. Once they did the software updates and replaced the clutch packs, and I read about how it's made and that you should be smoother on throttle with it etc, it's been better. The way I've seen in, and the way the dealer said it, if you'd open the transmission on that car, it's basically a manual transmission that is shifted by a computer, but he said the parts etc inside look and work like a stick shift.
It's not a fast car, but it is fun for just a little 2.0 4 banger.

I can't speak for the Feista, I'm just talking about the focus, as we have one of those and a sonic. I will say however, interior wise, even though the focus competes with the chevy cruze, as I think that is the car that's actually in it's class, the sonic feels like it has almost as much interior room as our focus.

The fiesta back seat is way too small, I ended up in the sonic because I like the looks better and the back seat room (for those who don't know, car seats take up tons of room!). The fiesta st and sonic really aren't even close to the same level when it comes to speed though. I know it's an obvious statement but driving the two makes it very clear.

I tried a Fiesta before I bought my Sonic. It didn't take me long to hate it. I felt cramped in the seat and the brakes were terrible.
I've been looking again and still look at the Fiesta St, but I notice it's reliability ratings are pretty low.

My original plan was to buy a fiesta st. After test driving and checking one out in person i changed my mind. If i was 20 and had no kids i would have probably bought one.
The sonic is a much better daily driver. The seats in the fist are very heavily bolstered to the point of being uncomfortable and the back seat is not only small, but has a terrible safety rating. This was what ruined it for me since i have a 3 year old.
If you live on a racetrack though the fist would be great. The power puts you back in your seat unlike the sonic but the difference isn't too drastic. It's a very tight car and more purpose built then an RS.

I thought about buying a Fiesta ST earlier in the summer and trading in my Sonic. But I decided to just save my money and put it into making my Sonic go bwaaaa psh! I do love the way the Fiesta ST looks, maybe I'll pick one up when they're around $5k.

I would never own a CVT either. How exactly is that relevant to this thread though? Neither Sonics nor Fiestas have CVTs as options.

Fiesta ST is manual only actually. Definitely agree about it being cramped. Particularly the back seat.
