Fun with plastidip

My first try at plastidip. I ended up not liking either style an peeling it. Getting a can of vht tomorrow to try.

What do you mean by clear coat? Like clear coat paint or clear coat something else?

Yes, clear coat for paint, krylon sells a good product. Just to give the vht a more glossy look. Look up vht niteshades on YouTube.

And it is pretty much useless. I used it on my daughter's wheels. Two heavy coats and you couldn't tell any difference once it dried. Maybe if you did 5 or 6 coats?? I wouldn't waste your money on it.

I just bought some plasti-dip with a krylon clear coat for the wheels. I'll probably get that done this weekend and let everyone know how I did

How exactly did you do the style from the first picture successfully? My first attempt didn't work, what I ended up doing was masking off the center light with painters tape and then spraying over it. I didn't really think about removing the tape without ripping the plastidip until after, and by then it was too late. Around the inner 8 shape, it's a bit torn up. Not noticible from far away, but definitely up close, and I don't think it'll last too long without peeling away.

My guess is he barely overlapped the edge of the light area using the natural break/divide to act as an edge that he could the carefully use a razor blade on and the peel off the excess.

I've been debating what I want to do with the gaudy red plastic on the rear tail lights, and now that I see how bad plasti dip looks, I'll scratch that off my list. Either night shades, dupli color smoke or some kind of tint film will be my next options. I just really want to tone down the bright red as I really hate how it looks in the day time from the side. I wish Chevy offered a smoked plastic option for the red area.

I struggled with that as well. The key is to layer your coats quickly and peel the tape before its completely dry. A cool shady spot to work deff helps. And beer. Beer helps. :beer:
