Sonic Gauges - Simple No Wire Basic to Advanced
Not too much new here . . . just some gauge exploration.
Note: This is more of an initial mock up to try a location. I also will probably be going to digital dial displays using the many QuadHelix skins he has for Torque Pro OBDII. I think a digital read out of values is easier to read for quick glances at the gauges. So excuse the the blurry and hurried pictures.
I've been reading through quite a few posts regarding gauge solutions for the Sonic and have come across a few that are similar to what i decided on. I was looking more to display coolant temperature, engine vacuum, transmission fluid temperature, and few more along with the possibility of changing pages and/or adding or deleting to the display if desired.
There are various ELM327 adaptors and I chose the BAFX since it seemed to have very good reviews. I also wanted a Bluetooth connection to minimize wires and also allow flexibility in the display location.
For a first try I got a refurb Moto G4 Play because it has a pretty good display and also a replaceable battery that may r may not be important. I also am thinking of using an Amazon 6" or 7" tablet maybe in the dash center.
Anyway, as many know, the Torque Pro app and Quadhelix add on skins and gauges provide a lot of variety and flexibility.
The beauty of going this way is that I also will have all the diagnostic features of Torque Pro.
What I used.:
Torque Pro app $5
Moto G4 Play or Fire 6 or 7 Tablet $50
BAFX OBDII Bluetooth Adapter $16
SCOSCHE MAGDMB MagicMount $18
So for about $90 total it's a nice way to add some missing gauges to the Sonic and also have some diagnostic aids.
