Hair-trigger radio power dial on/off angst

Wondering if anyone can suggest fix for radio power/volume knob that turns the radio off almost every time I try to adjust the volume. Very annoying.

On top of that the radio turns itself on parked with the key out. Ran down my battery one morning when I was running late and needed the car to work. Again - very annoying.

Decades of driving and never seen a car radio so buggy with Dickensian torment!

Kinda hard to diagnose without being able to see/touch it myself, but I'd hazard a guess that the radio itself has an electrical (Or possibly mechanical, though less likely) issue. Might be a great time to swap it for an aftermarket unit after you pull a multimeter out and start checking connections.

volume knob

Funnily enough my 2013 sonic did this last summer. I kept coming out in the morning to find my car dead as a doornail. After taking it in several times to be diagnosed, it turned out it was the On/Off/Volume knob of my radio turning on for no reason (or maybe it wasnt turning off when I turned the car off and locked it) - I had them completely disconnect the radio - and havent had an issue since. One of these days Ill get the courage to have another radio put in and see if it still happens
