How to install an aftermarket head unit?

So the car is now an LT, we had to find another car as the one in the showroom lacked AC.

Now my question is, will I have to purchase the Metra kit to be able to install my aftermarket head unit?? Or will I just need to find a "pocket kit" and wiring harness to swap it. I don't care for the turn signals or door chimes to be playing through the speakers, and I do not plan on keeping OnStar.

Well then, I forgot the Sonic is available without that radio.

In that case, you shouldn't need the Metra kit I linked in your other thread, you should be able to drop a standard double din in, or a single din with a pocket.

Exactly what I was hoping!!

But what harness would I need?

My dad works at a dealership, worse comes to worse, I have him get MASS to do the head unit install, and I can do all the other speakers / subwoofers, exact same thing I did in the Alero.

Hmm, the harness will be a hard one. I haven't found the harness by itself, only with the Metra unit. I would recommend contacting Metra and see if you can buy just the harness.

What harness would it be from that kit?

20-pin harness

4-pin harness w/stripped leads

22-pin to 44-pin harness

Just talked to my pops.

He's more than willing to get MASS to look into it to figure out what I need.

Seeing as it's a brand new vehicle, I best leave it to the professionals.

Ahhh, mass is the company that deals with electronics for the GM dealerships around here.

I'm hoping we can get THIS next year to add to our 2012 (genuine GM part, instead of what was mentioned before) I'm mad it's not in the 2012, and if they don't let me get it eventually there will be hell to pay!!!

yea, a touchscreen is standard on 2012 spark and 2013 sonics...

FYI, the Metra Axxess ASWC Universal Steering Wheel Control Interface will allow you to keep your steering wheel controls. Just installed it myself, works perfectly.

Note: I hacked off my harness for the install.
