Igniton Coil Plug Removal

Has anyone else tried to take the ignition coil off? I got nosey today and was going to check out what sort of spark plugs Chevy puts in our wonderful little cars and so far I have been out smarted. I saw the little orange tap and pulled it back and was able to press down on what seems to be a release button, pushed it and pulled but it didn't cooperate.

Im gonna guess and say delco iridiums.

My guess was right. the manual (11-6) gives gm part # 55580961 which is AC delco #41120 iridiums. Says to change at 97,500 miles. However, I would not go that long. In my colorado, the same iridiums were suppose to be good for 100k, but after only 62k they were ready to retire.

most like will say AC Delco or Denso on them. If its anything like the coil on plug of the Cadillac Northstar, sometimes they do take a little effort to break loose because of suction.

I've had mine off. As you said you slide back the orange tab and then depress the black tab... slid right off. You might need to press the plug towards the coil pack and then pull back.

switch those plugs out for E3 spark plugs, believe it or not I have heard of people actually gaining like 1-2 hp and upto 4 mpg with these PLUGS. They are available at Pep Boys.

Sorry to hear about your trouble - which clip did you break? You should be able to source a new clip/connector through GM. I have had issues like yours on older GM makes and found the plastic connector shells are sold as a part and are available at the dealer. Sometimes the proper fix is easier than zip ties - and are far more reliable...

Using aftermarket plugs like that can hurt it. I put e3 in the covalt for those exact reasons and it ****ed it up. Went back to Delco iridiums. there's a reason they put them in
