Interior panel flaking

So while driving the wife's sonic I noticed something odd. The interior panel directly above the headlight knob is flaking. It is like there is a clear coat on it and the clear is flaking off. I can get a picture when I get home today, but thought I'd put this out there to make people aware of at least one issue. It is not easily noticed, but I am a bit meticulous.

I showed it to the dealer and they ordered a new part for me. It is getting installed on Thursday.

I posted that picture from my phone last night, but it is right on the edge of the beige interior edge. It is a bit hard to see, but it is flaking. It isn't bad right now, but mine as well get it fixed asap and under warranty.

They won't have an answer. It is just an issue that the exterior coating didn't bond with the surface of the panel properly. I'm not too concerned as long as it is only this panel, but I will be keeping an eye out on all other surfaces for any issues.

Well, they replaced the panel but put a gouch in the surround for the HVAC controls. Got a new panel on order for that now...let's see if the screw it up this time!

par for the course with this sort of stuff. Modern cars just arent made to be taken apart the way they should be. Anytime you remove something. Clips break, panels no longer fit straight, and there is usually evidence of the repair. This isn't just a GM issue.

I don't believe this to be completely true. While OEMs have pushed the suppliers to find lighter and less expensive ways to join panels and install interiors the durability requirements don't change. It is a common issue of dealer techs not being careful when doing work on your car. It is a job to them and don't view your car the same way you do.

Couldn't agree more, but when it comes down to it, they should view your car more importantly. It's their job. It's how they feed and support there families. If they're not looking at it that way then they're either an idiot or work for a dealership were there are no repercussions for there mistakes. Either way, I would find a new dealership and make sure the current one know that you are and why your not coming back..

Couldn't agree more, but when it comes down to it, they should view your car more importantly. It's their job. It's how they feed and support there families. Panel replaced today without additional damage. YAY!
