So I have not been on here a while, as I no longer owner a Sonic. I now own a Juke. I've just done 5000kms, & 100hrs of seat time in my Juke. It seems like a good time to compare them.
Power: Winner, Juke. The engine is just really good.
Juke: With its turbo charged 1.6L (188hp/177tq), the juke has good power for its size (2912lbs). From above 3000rpm's it pulls really hard, past 3500rpm all I hear in the turbo. It loves to rev.
Soinc: The 1.8L eco-tec was a great tiny motor. I think it works great in the Sonic. After driving the Juke it feels like a lazy motor.
Juke 1: Sonic 0
Transmission: Winner, Sonic. I preferred the gearing.
Juke: The Juke has a 6spd manual, but it is not has good as I hoped. The gears are way too short. In 6th on the hwy going 115kph, I'll be turning 3000rpm. The clutch it really damn good, has tons of feel. It is also super easy to stall. I later found out it is a Renault sourced clutch. 1 - 2 is very rough, and the gears feel loose. A transmission mount should fix that.
Sonic: The 5spd worked, in 5th on the hwy doing 115kph I was turning 3000rpm. I found the clutch really vague, it has zero feel. I prefered the 5spd over the 6spd in juke.
Juke 1: Sonic 1
Styling: Winner, Juke. I'm always finding another design detail that surprises me.
This is toss up, both had rather unconventional styling. This is hard to judge.
Juke: With the head lights in the bumper, the turn signals on the hood, and other odd design que's the Juke is different. I've had mixed reviews on how it looks from other people, seems to be 3/4 of people love it and 1/4 of people hate how it looks. Myself it has grown on me, at first it was weird but now I love it. The only thing I change is I put on 2015 update tail lights, they use an amber turn signal and look way better.
Sonic: I loved the quad-pod head lights, and the a-pillar line coming down the hood to the grill. I really miss the the motorcycle like spedo, & tach. There at lots of thing I miss about the Sonic, but lots I don't miss.
Juke 2: Sonic 1
Handling: Winner, Juke. Acts like an almost hot hatch, but is a cross over.
Juke: For a top heavy cross-over you think it have body roll like the Titanic. Nope. It stays mostly flat & sticks the road. The tires are a big part of that (Toyo Extenza HP, 215/55r17, high performance AS). There is some under steer like normal from a fwd car. It also loves to lift-off over steer. There is decent steering feel, and some of torque steer (peak tq @ 2000rpm).
Sonic: For what it was is cornered very well. It's limp was its tires, they where crappy hard as granite fire stones. Before reaching the limits of the tires it stayed mostly flat. Had lots of under steer. The steering made the wheels turn, I think. No steering feel.
Juke 3: Sonic 1
Fuel economy: Winner, Sonic. Same (feels like) gearing, just no turbo.
Juke: You think for a tiny engine it be great on fuel, nope. It has a drinking problem. On the hwy like mentioned in the Transmission category the gearing is really short. Combine that with the turbo it makes a bad combo. I've been all over the place for fuel consumption. Getting as low as 8.1L/100km, as high as 6.8L/100km. My avg is 7.7L/100km. It also runs best on premium.
Sonic: What feels like similar gearing to Juke it kinda disappointing. I really miss the fuel economy my Sonic got. I could fill up 4 times a month vs. 5/6 times a month with juke.
Juke 3: Sonic 2
Daily Drive Ability: Winner, Juke. CC & AC are a life saver.
Juke: Like previously mentioned the Juke drinks fuel, other then that it is a great DD. The cruise control & AC is a life saver. No longer do I suffer in a budget Korean sauna. The cruise control saves lots of foot cramps. It does draw lots of attention though.
Sonic: As a DD is was perfect, I would not cry it got a tiny dent, it sipped fuel, and blended in.
Juke 4: Sonic 2
Value: Winner, Sonic. For its price with its features I think it was a better value.
Juke: I paid $13,500 before tax's & fee's for my Juke. For what it is it's a great value. Well equipped, and lots other great features.
Sonic: I paid $9500 before tax's & fees's for my Sonic. It was a compromise, but it was well equipped for a base model. When traded I owed $6000, they gave me $5000 on trade.
Juke 4: Sonic 3
Over all thoughts.
Both a great things to own, I really miss my Sonic in lots of ways. I hope the person who bought it really enjoys it. I would not own another one, but would recommend one. The Juke is a great thing, I love every second of it. It does have it quirks, that I love and hate. I found both the Juke & Sonic a "Love it or Hate it" car.
