Limp Mode???

I have talked about this in the past and have had the sonic in for warranty repair a number of times, so far with no positive results.

My wife took the car through a car wash with under carriage spray and low and behold the thing went into the "limp mode", both check engine lights on, max. speed 14 km/h, just enough to get it off the road. After about 15 minutes it drives normally and the CEL goes off.

This sort of thing has been occurring since new and has been in for warranty work a number of time. It happens in the car wash and if we drive through a large puddle.

The last time it was in they changed the turbo and some other minor things.

Has anyone else had the happen or are we the only poor souls with a haunted sonic.

It is a 2012 Sonic LTZ Turbo

Thankfully we have the GM extended warranty.

I have been in Limp Mode a couple times, both due to my own stupidity. One time I accidentally downshifted from third to second at about 95mph (I meant to go to fourth). The other time I had run the cord for my Ultragauge up to my dash by tucking it neatly into the steering column... and ended up pinching it.

Neither of those times was water related. Sounds to me like you probably have an exposed wire, cracked plug, split insulation or something. I wouldn't have thought of that, except as I say the Ultragauge experience tells me that yes, you can get there by messing with the wiring.

Ive been in limp mode twice but that was a year or so ago and i got an underboost cel but it never came back since.

Check your coils or spark plug wires. def electrical. Changed the turbo? Really???
