Looking at a Buick Encore.

So my fiancé got in a hit and run accident on 95 with some meth head and he bounced. She drives a 2012 Honda Civic had about $4K in damages fixed but when it was in the shop they gave here a 2014 Buick Enclave that she loved. She has owned nothing but CR-Vs in the past so I was happy she liked the Enclave but showed her the Encore because it was smaller.

I like everything about the Encore plus it comes with the 1.4T so I just wanted to see if anyone had experience with one of these or owns one and can give me a little more input in their experience? Thanks.

Yep, my wife has one, bought it month after the sonic. It is really nice having replaced a jeep grand Cherokee. It is a leather edition so it is very well equipped. Drives smoother than the RS which is expected. With mostly around town, stop and go and highway traffic it averages 30mpg. On a trip to Denver the 1.4 told us the same as the Sonic high speed, low Mpg. Averaged 25. Of course my Silverado only got 12 / 14

? , do you have 2wd or awd? Did you have a lot of extra weight in Buick? My RS gets 32 going from CO to LA (3 trips so far) going 5-7 over speed limit.

Ehh, the interiors are ok, sure you get all the Buick luxury, but they really haven't impressed me.

Personally, I don't like the windows in front of the side-view mirrors, just a personal peeve of mine.
I don't care for the radio controls, and if I remember correctly there was something about the radio screen or the cubby above it that just seemed to be in a really awkward place.

The exterior, looks like a spark on steroids, leaves a lot to be desired to me.
I can report more the next time we get more delivered at work

I wouldn't buy one on appearances alone, I'd take a 2.0T Regal instead.

2wd running about 83mph, only had 5000 on the odometer. Guess we,ll see if the next trip is better.

But it's got a heated steering wheel. I'm told that helps when you're in the older years.

The Buick Encore weighs some 400-500 lbs more than a Chevy Sonic. Performance is probably quite sluggish, especially if you want to use it to haul anything. The vehicle needs something like a 1.6L turbo (or larger).

Otherwise I think the vehicle is cute. The mini-SUV market is heating up and Buick Encore sales are doing well.

I seem to recall the Encore being almost the same weight if not the same as the Cruze and it's gearing is the same.

While the Cruze isn't "fast" by todays terms I wouldn't say its sluggish. Compare it to any late 1970s-early 80s car and it's a sports car.

ChrisJ, true enough. Vehicles nowadays are far better than those of "the good old days". But performance is all relative. The Buick Encore is slower than most other smaller UTEs (RAV4, CR-V, ...). Those that are slower models, like the Hyundai Tucson with a 2.0L engine, offer optional engines. So to be competitive the Buick Encore needs to either scrap the 1.4L engine or offer a an upgrade.

I think I've read the Cruze might be getting a 1.5L turbo in a couple of years. They should definitely do the same for the Buick Encore.
