Modified SAB vs RNI

Ok so I'm looking into doing a few mods today and it's crossed my mind to either just remove the stock accordian in favor of hard piping from the SaB to the turbo, or ******* off the tube with my maf from the box and attaching a cone filter. However the though of turbulent airflow comes into mind with that so does anyone have any tips on how to rectify this or should I just go with the hard piping and leave the airbox alone because the benefits of the RNI are outweighed by the effort/is no better than just hard pipping from the SaB?

I started with a K&N typhoon, but after a vey dusty rally race I discovered it's really a terrible filter... lots of grime in the intake duct after the race.

I decided to go back to the stock air box but keep the hard pipe in place. Stock filters work well and are cheaper to replace, no oil to worry about, no cleaning procedure, no question if it's working...

After this last race I looked into the hard tube and turbo inlet and both are grime free. Still has a nice growl but no bov sound with the sock box lime the open intake had... kinda miss it.

Yea, mainly the reason I went to hard pipping is cause my intake hose split but at this point I might as well just add a cone filter somehow but I think I'll leave that for another time at least untill i can figure out how to do it and make it look good or just wait till I get back from deployment and but the MPfab CAI

Here's how I see it: a Short ram intake is taking in very hot air from the engine bay, even with a heat-shield, and seems counter intuitive. What I am doing, and what I recommend, is to buy a K&N Hi-flow air filter for the SAB, delete the snorkel in the wheel well, and hard pipe the SAB. For a total of a little over $100 (more than half of which is just the filter), you can make a very efficient REAL CAI, opposed to spending $350 on an aftermarket short ram intake that gets maybe 3WHP. Look up "Hard pipin' your SAB" thread for more info on that.


EDIT: So after doing more researching, I found that MPFab makes the best aftermarket intake, and is proven to make about 8 hp more than SAB with snorkel delete. compare the approximate $115 for K&N filter and hard pipe SAB materials vs $250 for the MPFab intake, I think the MPFab intake is worth it. The sound of the BOV and turbo sound is much stronger with the MPFab intake, which makes it worth it to me. So after a change of heart, I think that the MPFab intake is the ONLY intake worth buying. but that's just me. And If you don't want to for some reason, then the above description for the SAB is still a good improvement from stock.
