My Link Stereo w/ Upgraded Speakers, Any Improvement in sound?

I just bought a 2014 RS. The stereo sounds really one dimensional, just no depth at all. I would prefer to keep the My Link head unit with back up camera, etc. If I upgraded the speakers to components in the front, new rear speakers, and a quality 4ch amp... will I see any real sound improvement? Or is the head unit just as bad as the stock speakers?

I would prefer not to upgrade the head unit.

Any amp and new speakers should be an upgrade in sound. Also depends on your input device and if your speakers have broken in correctly

The head unit is just a source unit at this level. A quality 4 channel and some nice speakers would be a huge difference.

I kept the head unit on my car added a line out converter using the harness on the drivers side door with an 800 watt amp and a 10 inch 1000 watt subwoofer... much better over the stock stereo. Much better.

Be cautious with the amp for the main speakers, when I did just the amp... the blinker audio was ungodly loud, I did replace the speakers with some nice Alpines, but the blinkers are still really loud...

My recommendation would be to skip the amp first. Get a good set of speakers and try that. If it isn't enough, then try the amp. I would also recommend Polk db651 in the front doors and Polk db651s for the rears. I have been very happy with this setup. I would have gone with db651 in the rear but there wasn't enough room without sheet metal or door panel modifications.

The Polk db and dxi series are both very efficient and work well with factory head units. I prefer db due to the silk dome tweeters. The new dxi have metal tweeters and are very bright.

Interesting...so you think replacing my rear stock speakers with these would give more bass? I notice if the fade all the way to the rear the rear sound is not as good as the front speaker. I assumed an amp would help rather than speaker.

Well the stock speakers are getting replaced either way specially at only $59 a set for Polks. I figure try them first and see where I am. I am considering the Kicker DSP 200w amp made specifically for the Sonic w/ Mylink. It's pricey at $359 on sale. Will try and see if I can find some reviews on it.

The kicker dsp systems are not adjustable and are not made for aftermarket speakers. They are designed and tuned for the stock speakers.

The parts I ordered were Metra 72-5600 speaker wire adapters and Scosche SAGMHR634 for the 4 speaker mounting brackets.

The Kicker amp comes in two forms. One for MyLink GM#19119233, and one that works without MyLink GM#19119231.

Thanks for the heads up on the Kicker amp not being made for aftermarket speakers. I will look into another amp then.

That's the right parts. The speaker harness is a tight fit.

I will look into the Kicker amp. Even though it is design for the stock speakers, as long as it has a higher output, more efficient amp; it should provide a better quality sound over stock.

Dont get me wrong it will work for aftermarket speakers. But with no adjustability on crossover points or gain controls, your pretty much stuck with the stock speaker setting.
