With a BNR tune you can make 240-250 tq with e85 and a few other things you can break 200hp so We don't have to worry about it that much. Although I do admit chevy is killing themselves by not bringing out something to counter the ST, they are just letting them take over the market.

that recipe is only good enough to match stock st numbers, just a couple bolt ons and a tune for the st and bye bye again. also, the fiST and sonic aren't even anywhere near being comparable cars. the FiST is a performance car, the sonic is solely intended for fuel economy. it's like comparing a base model cavalier to a srt-4 neon lol

not to mention the fiesta st was even more hard to find than a sonic rs was . i had 2 ford dealers laugh at me when i said i was looking for one. one dealer told me they have never had one on the lot , and another sad they could put me on a waiting list for like a year. also if they did happen to get one in i wouldnt get to choose any colour or options . i love my sonic more and more everyday i wouldnt trade it for anything , even if the fist has 1000 hp

You're totally right that our cars are made for fuel economy but at least our powertrains have similar setups. To compare a sonic (1.4) to a base cavalier is a little extreme though. I've never experienced a tuned 1.4 but it seems capable once you play with the stupid torque management GM is using. A 2.2 L pushrod cavalier motor is just garbage all together.

I have a funny feeling we're going to see an SS cruze hatch before we ever see an SS sonic. Especially with the terrible RS sales...

Haha the ford dealers i went to said the same thing aswell. Hell my RS was the most difficult car I've ever tried acquiring too. I was ready to drive across canada!

True but at least a sonic can get up to the stock numbers with a few bolt on's a bigger turbo and bolt ons 300hp is doable.

Also I still think the sonic is a fun car. It may not be the fastest but still fun and with mods you might not be able to match a modded st but I mod mine to get what I can out of the sonic and to add a personal touch to my car.

Ford isn't building/selling very many. Right now, within a 100 mile radius of my home (which includes Minneapolis, St. Paul, Rochester, Mankato, MN, LaCrosse and Eau Claire, WI and Mason City, IA) there is a grand total of 16 2016 fiST's available.

The closest one is 59 miles away.

If I do a search for a 2016 V8 Camaro - I get 37 within the same radius. If I open it up to all Camaros - I get 61. The nearest one (2SS version) is only 20 miles away.

For a few thousand $$$ more, if I wanted 335+ HP, I'd buy the Camaro.

2 months ago i paid $24 000 CDN before tax at 0.49% for a 2016 RS hatch manual. I priced a similar spec'd regular ST at $27 000 CDN at 2.49%. First of all the price difference is huge when you consider the interest rate. Second you couldn't get an ST if you wanted one. They're all taken, at least where i live in canada. And the RS was absolute hell to acquire. You can factory order one if you're willing to wait 60 days.

That's what I'm saying. I feel like the FiST is a tier above the Sonics (price wise). I bought my 2014 ltz used but only paid 13k out the door for it. I found find a fiesta for that, I looked, until I heard they had tranny issues.

I'm very curious if ford is producing all the ST models in very limited qualities... When i went to a dealer just to price one he told me that every ST was spoken for and there was literally none i could buy. Even factory ordering one is backlogged. This may be because i live in Canada tho. And i've only ever seen one in the wild! And one focus ST.

Nice price. Problem with all fiestas other then the ST is they aren't as fun or as capable as a 1.4 turbo sonic. Actually the sonic is better is every aspect to tell you the truth. The fiesta truely feels like a small car.

Over 60% of the new Camaros within a 100 mile radius are V8's (37 V8's vs 61 total).

I found 87 new Fiestas just now within the 100 mile radius vs the 16 fiST's I found yesterday. That's 18% of a much lower production total. Ford sold less than 65,000 Fiestas last year, GM sold almost 78,000 Camaros.

The typical small car buyer is looking for an economical car, not a pocket rocket.

You're exactly right which is why performance versions of small cars sell much less then higher performance versions of purpose built sports cars. If someone wants a legitimately fast car then the subcompact segment is the last place most would look.

Volkswagen seems to be the exception to this rule but i think this is because of the higher entry price of buying a Volkswagen. Buyers aren't affraid to spend more on a GTI.

Volkswagen doesn't sell many cars here and the number is going down.

In 2015, they had 1.1% of the US market. Since they were exposed for cheating the emissions standards their sales have plunged. They are facing an $18,000,000,000 fine from the EPA and may have to buy back all the cars if they can't come up with an approved solution very soon.

Last month they sold a total of 18,673 cars here, in February of 2015 they sold 23,478 cars.

Total light vehicle sales in the US in February was 1,344,225.

Well maybe ford should up the production. Can't sell cars if they don't produce them. Of course sales will be down if they don't produce them. I would love to have a small car with 300 hp that handles like its on rails. Camero's have their place but so do small powerful cars. And GM sold 78,000 Cameros but how many of those were Z28's and all the other off upper trim levels. I can tell you now, most Camero's are the lower trim levels. So yes Limited amount of people buy them but it doesn't mean there's not a place for chevy to make a small powerful car. A small light car making 300 hp would be nuts and chevy is missing the boat on this.
