Having researched the competition, I was down to 3 cars that will get an honest 40mpg: Accent, Rio5 and Sonic. Sonic is a bit more expensive, but looks better, rides better, has a spare tire (temp.) and I could order what I want. Living in AK, dealerships can be few and far between - closest Hyundai and Kia dealers are over an hour away in Anchorage and they only get the cars that are sent to them - no custom orders. And then there's made in the USA and American union jobs. That counts for a lot with us. So they fired up a 1LT (our Golden Retriever insists on a Hatchback), chipped the ice off of it, and we took it for a slipping' and sliding' test drive. Nice car! Dark colors show the dirt too much, didn't want red or orange, white cars disappear in a snow storm, so we ordered a Silver 1LT, Connection Kit, add Fog lights when it arrives. Got a whopping $250 GM employee discount through my brother-in-law, gave them $500 and now we wait. 60-90 days they say. That's OK, I won't have to buy Blizzaks for it until Fall this way. Here's hoping something good will come out of Wasilla and won't quit on us!
