My sister broke down her 2013 Chevy Sonic Hatch Back, so she decided to give it to me. I'm 16 and this is my first hands-on experience working on a vehicle and I think it should be an easy fix, but as I mentioned the reason I have this in the first place is that it is broken. I can drive the car for maybe 5 miles before it starts to alert me it is overheating, but this alert only plays for about 15-35 seconds then shuts off. Since it shuts back off I just keep driving it but then again after maybe another 5 miles it does it again but doesn't go away until I park for a while. I think my father had the thermostat replace in November of 2020, and the temperature of the water pump hoses is also feeling moderately the same after bringing it back home. I know for a fact the radiator is not the issue, in fact, I think we had it replaced over a year ago I have put coolant into this thing more times than I can count and I have also replaced a hose that was leaking the coolant. It has a check engine light on for code 86 or 82 I think, this is for me to have an oil change soon. I went to the mechanic the other week and he pointed out that the oil was dripping out. In my head, I am imagining that the head gasket is having the issue and that the oil leak is not helping that. If anybody needs any more information please let me know, sorry for my inexperience.
