PlastiDip all chrome on car?

I was told my chrome looks tacky, the chrome trim near windows/door, headlights/taillights. I would maybe like to plastidip it but was wondering if anyone else has, that can share any pics? I know the tails and headlights you have to remove to get the chrome trim off, shouldn't be too bad, but how hard was it to get the grille and side trim taped off and sprayed? I'd like to do something permanent, but I'm not sure what the process would be or how hard it'd be to remove.

For the trim on the grille, I just taped off the bumper and the grille to paint the chrome on it, originally I used plasti dip to see if I would like it, then I switched to real spray paint made for plastic and it works fine. Window trim I just taped off for the same results. Don't have a pic for when I had the plasti dip on my car.

Thanks!! I am pretty pleased with how it all turned out, also surprised at how just blacking out some chrome completely changes the look of the whole car, you will be pleased

If you get going on dipping the chrome off and have any questions shoot me a PM and ill help ya out. I can give a few tips now that will save heart ache and pain.

1. Make sure to wash all parts with dish soap to remove any grease then
allow to dry 100% and be sure to blow out an crevices of any excess
water that may seep out after dipped and ruin it.

2. All you need to clean after washing it is some isopropyl alcohol.

3. When taping off the area to dip be sure to leave enough space to be able
to grab and lift up the excess off of the paint. Also be sure to put a heavy
coat where you will be peeling the excess off so it comes off smooth and
not all spotty if it is a thin spray.

4. After peeling the tape be careful when lifting the excess dip so that it will
self terminate along the edge of the item being dipped. This means that
you do not need to cut the dip just peel it up to the lettering/side molding
and it will separate and leave a clean finished line on its own. The only
place you may need a razor blade is when lifting the side molding so that it
does not peel into what you just dipped.

5. One thing I forgot was to be sure to place the can of dip into a bucket of
hot water to make the spray come out more consistent.

I don't think average people look at chrome and thinks it looks tacky. If anything it shows you have a more expensive version car. But it's all personal preference. I have some of my chrome blacked out but also left some.

If you don't want color or to black it out, clear dip over chrome has a pretty cool brushed metal look to it.

Thanks for all the replies guys. How many cans of dip would I need to do the two window trim pieces, grille, and tails? 1, maybe 2? I'd like to go with the Evo look too that'd be sick, but not sure how it'd look on a orange car vs the white where it really pops.

The Evo look should work well with the orange. Black and gray are currently the only colors I think wouldnt do so hot. lol

I liked how it worked on my silver.

The thicker the better is how plastidip works so yes 2 cans would cover all that's but you would want to spray prob 4 cans.

I never thought to heat up the cans of plasti dip! I plan on doing all the Chrome on my car soon
